Even though 2023 has just begun, it's already off to an interesting start.
I don't know about you, but since the initial outbreak of COVID-19, it feels like with every new year, things get weirder, and people become more unhinged.
So, in case you've been sleeping under a rock for the past 2 months, here's a list of all of the crazy things that have happened this year so far that I didn't have on my 2023 bingo card.
1. Avril Lavigne was spotted on a date with Tyga at Nobu

Avril Lavigne, the queen of the early 2000's pop-rock scene, was recently spotted hugging Tyga at Nobu in LA. Although she announced her engagement to Mod Sun in April 2022, rumors have surfaced that the two have split. Tyga, who dated Blac Chyna (and has a son King with her) and later Kylie Jenner, has not previously been seen with Lavigne. Fans have voiced their confusion over the pair's connection on Twitter.
2. Jennifer Lopez almost did a Whitney Houston tribute at the Grammys

Rumor had it for a while that Jennifer Lopez was set to a tribute to Whitney Houston at the 2023 Grammy Awards. Fans attributed the rumor to a false claim that according to AP News, she once said that Houston's songs "fit her vocal range very well." Although it didn't happen, and her representative Lauren Schwartz told AP News that "There is no truth to this rumor," for a while fans were convinced and very vocal about their feelings about this.

After being roasted by climate change activist and overall icon Greta Thunberg in December 2022, infamous internet personality and misogynist Andrew Tate, along with his brother Tristan, was arrested by Romanian police for suspicions of human trafficking and forming an organized crime group. According to AP News, the brothers lost a previous appeal for release at the beginning of this month and will continue to be behind bars until the end of March.

Photos of the couple posing for British Vogue with their son were released just days after the performance.
5. Lana Del Rey's Dad announced he's releasing an album

Deemed an "accidental recording artist" by Decca Records, Grant is a stranger to the industry but has always been a musician. According to Billboard, Lana helped her dad write some of the songs on the album, and contributed vocally.

In January 2023, a story broke that congressman George Santos performed in drag when he lived in Brazil in the mid-2000s. Known for his endorsement of the Don't Say Gay bill, Santos has faced a great deal of backlash from the public since his election. He initially tried to deny the claims about his history of performing in drag. However, according to Reuters, sources have come forward to confirm that he dressed in drag "in 2005 at the first gay pride parade in Niteroi" and then performed in a drag beauty pageant in Rio. After being approached at an airport, ABC News reports that Santos claims that he "was young and had fun at a festival."

Today the Jonas Brothers surprised fans by announcing their 5-day Broadway residency at the Marquis Theater. After recently being honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and announcing their upcoming album The Album (which is set to come out in May), they decided their fans deserved another thing to look forward to. Their 5-day residency, from March 14-March 18, will feature hits from all of their albums.

Although the wedding hasn't been confirmed, the two were spotted wearing wedding rings. Recently, he has been hiding from the public spotlight since making numerous anti-semitic statements and praising Hitler in an interview.
