Tom's Restaurant is where it's at. Hearty and affordable meals are served up in this family-owned Morningside Heights landmark since the 1940s. Also: Suzanne Vega wrote a song about it.

If you're traveling with the family, this 1950s throwback diner is the way to go. Their signature dishes are, of course, burgers, including the "Rory," a "guaranteed to please" creation containing peanut butter (and allegedly loved by the King of Rock 'n' Roll himself).

Peculiarly retro, Mickey's Diner is a staple of St. Paul. What's more impressive than their national fame? Their scrumptious, greasy, mouth-watering breakfast food. They are legit.

Yup. Another Cali joint. This Brooklyn-inspired restaurant is all about classic American meals and camaraderie, so it's no surprise that they have remained a local and tourist destination for over half a century.

10. Silver Skillet - Atlanta, GA

An uplifting place in the South, Silver Skillet has been featured in too many TV shows and magazines to count. Best item on the menu? Their scrumptious homemade lemon ice-box pie.

11. Moody's Diner - Waldoboro, ME

Blueberry pie, walnut pie, strawberry shortcake, chocolate cream pie... this diner is temptation galore. Moody's has been around for over eight decades and featured in several publications.

The name does kind of says it all. This place serves up straight deliciousness 24/7 (yup, they are open all day and night). Incredible vanilla milkshakes at 5 a.m.? UH, YES please.
