Ithaca College Contingent Faculty's HONY Style Campaign Is Powerful

Ithaca College contingent faculty are protesting Oct. 19 and their campaign promoting it is genius.

ITHACA, NEW YORK — Contingent faculty at Ithaca College are protesting tomorrow, Oct. 19. They are calling for the college to offer them fair pay, increased job stability and more respect. Contingent faculty and IC Students for Labor Action launched a Humans of New York style campaign last week to demonstrate the conditions of contingent faculty on IC's campus. The photos from the campaign are powerful and should start a conversation on IC's campus about where tuition dollars are going if some professors are on Medicaid.

In 2014, the 13 highest paid administrators at Ithaca College were paid almost $2.6 million. That's the equivalent of how much contingent faculty are paid for 1847 credit hours or more than 600 3-credit classes. 77 full-time contingent faculty members make less than 13 administrators.
