9 Reasons Why The Legend Of Zelda: Ocarina Of Time Should Be Your First Video Game

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is my favorite video game, as well as the first game I played by myself. It is an amazing game that everyone should play, especially if you have never played a video game before.

1. Ocarina of Time is Stand-Alone

You do not need to know anything about The Legend of Zelda to enjoy this game.

2. Amazing Storyline

The game follows Link (the one with the green hat), living in the magical land of Hyrule. He meets Princess Zelda, who is then kidnapped by the evil Ganondorf. Link must then travel through perilous dungeons and time itself to get what he needs to defeat Ganondorf.

3. The Music

The game centers around a magical musical instrument, the Ocarina of Time. The songs played on the Ocarina of Time hold magic abilities, from teleportation, long-distance communication, unlocking secret temples, and even more!

4. The Land of Hyrule

Ocarina of Time was the first Zelda game in a 3D format. This meant that the land of Hyrule could be so much more realistic than ever before. From the great trees of the Kokiri Forest, to the smoke rings of Death Mountain, to the ominous darkness of Hyrule Castle, the scenery is without compare.

5. Time

Ocarina introduced day/night cycles. It also uses young Link AND teenage Link to complete the game. Time (as you would expect from the title) is the main focus of the game.

Time travel means that you can see how the characters develop over time. There is an angry man that you meet as an adult. He is mad because of a song that some delinquent boy played, destroying his windmill. He teaches you the song. You then go back in time and, as a child, play the song and destroy his windmill. So in the end, he was the one that taught you the song that destroyed his windmill!

7. Dungeons

The game has nine main dungeons and three side-quest dungeons. This may seem like a lot, but each dungeon is more enamoring and challenging than the last. Each environment brings its own feelings and newness which never lets the game grow old.

8. Playtime

I spent well over 30 hours playing Ocarina. It may seem excessive, but the time goes by like it's nothing.

9. Lasting Forever

The game does not get old with time. In fact, when Nintendo re-released Ocarina for the 3DS, the only real change was the graphics. Even after all this time, the game is perfection. Perfect for you to begin playing!
