This 8-acre park was built in 1960 by the Mansfield Jaycees with donated lumber and equipment. The developer of the surrounding neighborhood had opened a public pool and the volunteers wanted a place to hang out before and after a swim!

The park opened in 1976 as part of a collaboration with the school district. The city got the land in exchange for building and maintaining a football and baseball field that the new high school next door (now Wester Middle) could use. After upgrades in 2004, it was renamed to honor then-City Manager Clayton Chandler. In 2017 the park was significantly remodeled to add the splash pad, skateboard plaza and other elements.

If you've ever walked in the open space and felt the pecans beneath your feet or noticed how the trees are lined up ever so perfectly, you'll get it! There are dozens of 150+ year-old pecan trees that Katherine Rose herself used to collect, selling the fruit to a nut company in Fort Worth and using the money to fund vacations and special gifts for her two daughters.

Now used primarily for softball and as a trailhead to the Walnut Creek Linear Trail, McKnight East was once a busy hub of activity! First used as a park in the late 1970s, it was originally known as City Park. In the 1980s, efforts began to preserve more of the land surrounding the creek and create a Central Park space. That concept eventually became the Walnut Creek Linear Trail, and the park was named after James McKnight in 1988 when he donated a significant portion of his family's land and money to the project.

In 2006, the MAC installed projectors and dance boards in a partnership with the Mansfield Early Childhood PTA to encourage physical activity in a totally fun way. MAC members enjoyed free play and tournaments for a few years until the game's popularity faded and the room was repurposed for classes.
