"Marie Christie Robert (Hap Seng Property KK Branch) has selflessly donated more than half of her liver to her former Math teacher, Cikgu Cheong Siew Hua, who was dying from liver failure due to Hepatitis B. Initially, she has kept her decision known only to the very few people close to her to avoid people talking her out of it.
She had taken unpaid leave and undergone the liver transplant operation in Taiwan, April this year. Tzu Chi Foundation representatives from Malaysia who were coincidentally there in the same hospital on the same day managed to visit Cikgu Cheong after his operation and found out about this heartwarming story.
We have reached out to Marie and asked on how we could assist her recovery and again, she surprised us by only requesting Hap Seng Group to help Cikgu Cheong in whatever way we could.
Cikgu Cheong and his family members has used up all their savings for the operation. As a move to support her noble mission, Hap Seng Group has taken the initiative to provide financial assistance to cover the balance of the operation cost through Tzu Chi Foundation."
