So... DramaFever Shut Down And I Am NOT Impressed

DramaFever was home to hundreds of Asian dramas, including Boys Over Flowers, My Love From the Star, Strong Woman Do Bong Soon, and many more.

On October 16th, Warner Brothers officially terminated DramaFever, a popular streaming service for Asian dramas.

After 9 years of being known as a hub for streaming popular dramas from Asia, DramaFever erased itself from the world. No warning, only a few vague statements about their retire. This statement was released as DF's official response; “Thank you for nine great years. As of October 16, DramaFever has been shut down… While this decision is difficult, there are a variety of business reasons that have led to this conclusion.”

BUSINESS REASONS? I'm sorry, but what the fuck? Today, one show that would've been 800,000 dollars to license costs upwards of 1 million dollars (for one season) It's no secret the "big-boy" companies like Netflix and Amazon Prime have a lot more resources (mostly money) than smaller companies like DramaFever, and so it makes sense that the company would perhaps reconsider the worth of their services. However, unlike most companies Dramafever shut down with absolutely NO WARNING and though the DF fanbase was not as large as that of Netflix, they were (ARE) a dedicated bunch.

The good news is that DramaFever is not the only Asian-drama subscription service out there. Other widely used providers like Viki and KOCOWA are stepping up, and doing a pretty good job at bridging the gap.
