    Secret Sauce: The Wisdom Of Florentine Shop Owners

    Each year, starting in the week before Christmas and proceeding through the week after New Year's, I travel. During this one stint, I can usually get 14 solid days abroad, plus a couple of days of flight time. For the self-employed, it's the most justifiable vacation time of any length. People actually stop emailing. In past years I've gone to Montreal for comedy and Toronto for a play, but this time it's Florence, Italy for nothing in particular, and it has changed my attitude toward pace and time.
