I Love Hallmark Christmas Movies, But Even I've Got To Say These 5 Tropes Are Getting Tired

It's not really Christmas Day unless there's piles of snow falling.

1. Hard working women must choose between their career or family

In most of Hallmark's movies, we see a recurring theme that all women must eventually choose between their family or career. This could be considered one of the worst tropes that Hallmark uses in their Christmas movies. More often than not, these hard working women who have a bad day tend to think it's the end of the world. They choose to blame themselves for a wrong choice that leads them to choose between family or career.

Within all of Hallmark's movies the women must make a choice between one or another, as they're not allowed both. When this specific scene arrives in the movie, all the women choose their family over their career. With the holiday spirit right around the corner, these women realize their family is what means most to them anyways.

2. The main character comes home for Christmas

Of all the common tropes in Hallmark Christmas movies, one of the very best occurring themes is that the main character will always return home. This usually starts with the main character who has left home for career reasons and will return later on. When they do return, their attention is focused on their hometown, family, and their significant other who they left behind. All the tension has suddenly passed over just in time for the romantic holiday to begin.

3. A town-wide Christmas ceremony or event where every resident shows up

Most cities have their own special tradition of celebrating the Christmas holiday. From parades to tree lighting, to hot cocoa and Christmas singing — events like these help to bring the city together and force them to participate and enjoy the Christmas spirit. Hallmark does a great job of helping all get in the holiday spirit. But literally everyone in town seems to show up.

4. The children help find a significant other for their single parent

Nothing can compare to two single parents who met over the holidays, bonding together over the Christmas holiday with their children. And absolutely nothing is better when a child helps their single parent find true love. It's hard for single parents with children to go out with another person, especially if the child is opposed to the idea. In fact, many kids are opposed to their parents dating, but not in any of the Hallmark movies. The complete opposite occurs in all Hallmark's movies.

5. And it's always snowing on Christmas

Although it doesn't snow everywhere for Christmas, Hallmark will always be sure to include snow on the ground in most of their Christmas movies. Of course it's not a perfect Christmas without snow on the ground! However, a majority of Hallmark's Christmas movies are actually filmed in a city with snow during the holiday season. After all, it's not a true Christmas movie if it didn't snow on the 25th anyways, right?
