Also called the "Rainbow of Cuba", Soroa is tiny settlement just east of La Habana and Cuba's own little rainforest boasting incredible waterfalls, tall ancient trees and myriad of different flora species making it prime terrain for adventure-seeking travelers who want to experience Cuba's more rugged side. Surprisingly unfrequented by foreign tourists, Soroa is also perfect for socially adventurous travelers who want to rub shoulders with locals and Cuban tourists. Soroa is also nearby to some of the other outdoor dynamos of the island, including the amazing Valley of Viñales.

The second-largest city of the island, located at the easternmost tip, Santiago de Cuba is perhaps the best city to visit for travelers looking to experience and, perhaps, understand a bit of Cuban culture. An economic and cultural center, Santiago boasts important roles the Spanish-American War and the Cuban Revolution and was the homeland of some of the island's most popular cultural figures including revolutionary figure Frank Paìs and producer Emilio Estefan. Culturally diverse due to Spanish occupations, African slave trading, and influxes of French and British immigrants, Santiago is the island's religious center being home to the first Cathedral (attracting many Cuban pilgrims) and also an incredibly high number of citizens who adhere to Afro-Cuban religions. If that wasn't enough, Santiago is the birthplace of two of Cuba's most important contributions to the world: salsa and rum.

A UNESCO World Heritage Site praised for being the best existing example of 19th century Spanish urban planning and boasting an astounding collection of more than 1,500 buildings from the Neoclassical period (including a pirate-fighting fortress!), Cienfuegos is the Cuban holy grail for the architecturally- or historically- inclined traveler. Moreover, being an important trading port means that Cienfuegos is rich in history going back the original Taino settlers of the Chiefdom of Jagua and continuing through French and Spaniard occupations.

Housing the fourth-largest city in Cuba, the province of Holguin offers amazing experiences to those willing to travel to the eastern end of the island, especially for the travelers who just need a good beach to be happy. Boasting multiple of the island's best beaches (Guardalavaca, Playa Pesquero, Playa Esmeralda, Playa Blanca, Playa Yuaguanel) and award-winning resorts, you can definitely beach-hop your way around Holguin.

From sprawling plazas, intimidating fortresses, and historic cafes to buzzing nightlife, incredible sea views, and world-class dining, La Habana exceeds all expectations. Being the capital,It's also the best connected and best-served city in terms of amenities, languages, and organized experiences making it adept to new travelers or those wanting to stay closer to their comfort zone.

Pinar del Rio is the capital city of the easternmost province of the island (also Pinar del Rio) and while not exactly big, the city and the province have an incredible agricultural heritage making it home to some of the most scenic views of the country and the perfect place to visit for travelers who like unique, one-in-a life experiences. Going to the beat of its own drum, Pinar del Rio developed mostly independently during the pre- and post-Columbian periods until Canarian immigrants arrived and developed the rich soil for tobacco farming. The province boasts of the one of the most visually stunning places in Cuba, the Valley of Viñales. Looking like a still from a Jurassic Park movie, the Valley is home to extremely unique geological formations called Mogotes and is home to many endemic plants and animals.
