Meet Ruairi: The Internet's Youngest Music Critic Who Loves Brockhampton, Frank Ocean, And Tyler The Creator

I'm certain this child has achieved more than I ever have in my entire lifespan.

One day, I was browsing YouTube when I came across a video titled "Dad Reacts to Frank Ocean!" As an avid fan, when I see Frank Ocean in a title, I click.

This child, who the internet knows as Ruairi, provides commentary as he enthusiastically shares his musical interests with his father. His father feeds the discussion as he responds with his own opinion and impression of the music. Not only is it entertaining to see the reactions of the older generation to modern content (hence, the success of Elder's React), but the difference in experience and innocence is charming. His father comments, "That was inappropriate," as they listen to Frank Ocean sing, "I'll be the boyfriend in your wet dreams." Ruairi, unaware of the meaning of "wet dreams," responds, "This song is technically clean. He didn't say any bad words." This little interaction is endearing, and that is part of Ruairi's appeal.

Whereas I listened to Taylor Swift, Demi Lovato, and other Disney starlets at his age, Ruiari listens to Brockhampton, Tyler, The Creator, and A$AP Rocky. His passion for hip-hop, rap, and R&B music is uncharacteristic for his age range and so is the depth at which he discusses music. He has begun to develop a strong ear for music right before our eyes as he peels back the layers of a song, citing instruments, beat changes, and lyrics as part of his discussion. Thus, not only are teen and young adult viewers able to share a unique connection with a child through music, but an intelligent conversation can be held beyond, "I don't know; I just like how the song sounds."

Additionally, he has interests in other areas. On his Instagram profile, he occasionally posts fit pics and other streetwear-related content. As a fan of Tyler, The Creator, he owns a pair of Converse One Star x GOLF le FLEUR sneakers and is seen wearing a GOLF le FLEUR t-shirt in "Dad Reacts to Tyler, The Creator." He also has a streetwear account on the side.
