5 Video Games For Couples

My husband is a gamer; I'm not. But here are our favorite video games we've played together!

My husband loves video games. All those first person shooter games and mythical worlds and military battlefields. I play some video games - mostly computer or iPad games - and mostly puzzle or point-and-click adventures.

So, we try to play games together. Here are our favorite 5 games!

5. Any Lego Game

Bonus points if it's a universe you're into! My personal favorite is the Harry Potter lego games, but there's Star Wars, Marvel, Lord of the Rings, Pirates of the Caribbean, the Incredibles, and more!

There's story to follow, plenty of collectibles, and the game isn't too challenging for new gamers. Dying is just exploding into a pile of coins and coming right back. And you can smash literally everything to get more coins, which is both fun and cathartic.

4. Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime

In this game, you operate a big, round spaceship. Inside the spaceship, the game is similar to the original Donkey Kong arcade platform game. Outside the spaceship, it's like a 360° space invaders game. And you play both at the same time!

It's starts easiest enough, but definitely gets more challenging. Warning: this game requires lots of communication & teamwork.

We usually pick stations. He drives the engine and controls where we go, and I run around to the different guns and shoot the enemies. Plus, you can include up to 4 players in couch co-op mode - so super fun for double dates!

3. Unravel Two

Specifically made for two players, this game is more relaxed with a focus on working together. The gameplay is beautiful and the mechanics really smooth and interesting. This one was a little more up my alley as it's more like a physics-based adventure game.

This game was a little shorter, but we had a blast figuring it all out. The characters are also adorable. But the scenery & music is where this game excels. It's just beautiful to play.

2. Mario Kart

If you don't feel like working together, maybe you should race against each other. Nothing feels better than launching a red turtleshell at my husband at the last second and crossing that finish line before him.

You probably don't need an explanation on this one, but just in case... you race, you throw objects and get speed bonuses, and you win! The newest version really is great, and this is a game we find ourselves continually going back to. Be sure to pick your kart carefully and learn how to drift... it really makes a difference.

1. It Takes Two

Ugh. I cannot gush about this game enough. The story starts with a couple on the edge of divorce, and their frustrated daughter's tears turn them into dolls. In an attempt to get back to their human form, they must learn to work together. They uncover memories and learn new truths about each other.

Besides the beautiful storyline, the game boasts many different gameplay styles and interesting levels. The game play is long, but never gets boring. Literally, each new chapter brings something creative and new.
