What It's Like To Live At Home When Everyone Else Lives On Campus

I didn't choose the commuter life, the commuter life chose me

1. Making Friends is brutal.

When you have to commute you don't get the benefit of randomly striking up a conversation with a complete stranger in the shared kitchen at three in the morning. Sharing tight spaces seems to bring people together.

2. Everyone who lives on campus gets to enjoy meal plans. Commuter students get to enjoy dry homemade turkey sandwiches.

And at the end of a school year when money gets left over on the meal plan it goes towards chocolate and other snacks. As a commuter student I'm still munching away on that turkey sub.

3. Commuter students need lots of coffee because they spend half of their day commuting. Forget sleep. It's not for you.

Commuter students are always baffled at how students who live on campus get to class later then them.

4. And if a commuter student does decide to take a nap it has to be at the library.

Those campus kids who get to nap in a bed don't know how lucky they are.

5. Commuter students don't get the hype of going home for the holidays.

And when all your friends who live on campus go away for the holidays, you're all by your lonesome again.

6. This still happens when you live at home.

People who live on campus get to live on their own schedule. And they get to boast how independent they are.

7. Caught under a horrible storm? Commuter students don't get the luxury of going home and changing in between classes.

8. Commuter students usually don't make it to the random mid-week hangout that turns out to be the best party of the month. If you are a commuter most likely you are out of the loop.

"I would have gone to the party but the bar would have been closed by the time I came down" *cries on the inside*

9. When you do decide to go out as a commuter student, you have to spend an insane amount of money on Uber to get home.

That is if no one who lives on campus is nice enough to offer you their uncomfortable couch.

10. And don't even get me started on being friends with roommates as a commuter student. Just stop with the inside jokes already!

We really hit it off during frosh week, I thought we were going to be the three musketeers :(

11. But as a commuter student you do get to save money on rent. And food. And your mom might still be doing your laundry. Living at home rocks!
