Kind Of Sketchy That Men Don't Wear Engagement Rings

An engagement is a beautiful thing. The standard Merriam-Webster definition is an arrangement to meet or be present at a specified time and place. The other definition? A hostile encounter between military forces. Kind of ironic. Traditionally, the man proposes and the woman accepts. She wears a ring to represent their union upon the day of their engagement, while the man... well he might as well be single until after the wedding. Let's divulge a few reasons why this should change.

1. It's 2017... Get With The Times

The tradition of giving a ring in exchange for marriage originated from Judaism when Eliezer of Damascus gave Rebecca a "golden nose ring." Rebecca was obviously really hot. And no, it wasn't an actual nose ring, but that would have been hilarious. The ring was given in order to place "claim" on the woman in the interum period from engagement to marriage. WTF.

2. It Would Be Cheaper To Have No Engagement Rings

Engagement rings are expensive! I mean, you know that right? A man is expected to spend three months of his salary, minimum. Meaning, if a man makes $80,000 a year, he should be spending at least $20,000 on an engagement ring. That is ridiculous. Barbaric! How about neither of you get a ring, and instead you use the money for the future of your children. You're welcome.

3. It Allows Guys To Be Slimier

I'm not saying that all guys are slimy. I'm simply saying that it allows guys an opportunity to be. Think about bachelor and bachelorette parties. When you see a group of girls, you know right away which one is the bride-to-be. She's usually wearing a sash, possibly a tiara, and an all white ensemble. Veiled, crowned, and/or sipping her cocktail through a penis straw. However, the groom-to-be is purposely incognito. How can we blame innocent strippers when they have no idea they're dancing on a soon-to-be-married man?

4. Marriage Is A Partnership

If you are equal partners in a relationship, there is no reason why only one person should represent your future state of matrimony. I'm not saying that women can't wear engagement rings, or that men should, but rather, they should both decide what they want to do together. Either both of you are all in, or neither of you should be.
