5 Essential Features Every Children’s Bedroom Needs

What are the essential features that every children's bedroom should have?

Decorating your child’s bedroom is always a really fun process, from choosing the décor style to looking for the perfect furniture pieces. There are so many amazingly creative ideas for children’s bedrooms, especially if you opt for a specific theme or style to work with, but the things that stay consistent through every room are the features that make the room practical and fun.

It doesn’t matter how old your child is, these particular features are required in any child’s bedroom, so make sure you give them some proper thought when it comes to adding them into the room.

    A Cosy Bed

The most important feature within a child’s bedroom is the bed. From cots to first beds, you need to ensure your little one has a cosy, comfortable bed for them to settle down each evening. Sleeping patterns are so important for young children, especially when you’re transitioning from the cot to the big bed, so you need to make sure it’s just right. Invest in a high-quality, durable mattress to start with, and then you can look around for the right bed to go into their bedroom.

You also need to consider safety with your little one’s bed, especially when they’re used to being in a cot. There are lots of brilliant products available to help make bedtime safer, from bed rails and safety nets, to cosy pillows to help keep your little one central in the middle of their bed whilst the sleep.

    Practical Storage

It can be hard to get the right balance when it comes to the storage in your child’s bedroom, especially when you have toys and clothes to consider. The main thing to think about is what you can incorporate into the room without making it feel crowded or small. Having plenty of space to play and run around is essential for your child, so try to keep the storage neat and practical. From wardrobes and chests of drawers, to oak blanket boxes and under-the-bed storage, you can find all kinds of spaces to keep toys and clothes neat and tidy, whilst still making them easily accessible for your little one to get when needed.

The benefits to under-the-bed storage and oak blanket boxes is that they’re multi-purpose features, so you know you’re utilising the space properly with these.

    Plenty of Colour

Having lots of bright colours throughout your child’s bedroom is very beneficial for a number of reasons. By keeping the colour scheme of your child’s bedroom bright and fresh you are able to maintain a positive, fun atmosphere that will make them feel happy and comfortable when in their bedroom. The colours can really help to influence their mood, encouraging imagination when playing and so on. It’s also really nice to keep things bold and colourful as this helps to enhance the youthful vibe that you want to achieve for the décor within this room.

    Safety First

Whilst safety features may be available in a number of different forms, you should always have a child gate at the top of the stairs or on the entrance to your child’s bedroom. When your little one starts to toddle and walk, you want to keep them as safe as possible. Having a child safety gate on their door will simply prevent them from wandering out of their bedroom when you’re not around, as they may be used to having the security of their cot preventing them from doing so before. You can remove the gate whenever necessary, but it’s always beneficial to have one just in case.
