Clinical Specialty provides members with the opportunity to gain knowledge and skills about a health career of their choosing. This competitive event consists of three items: the development of a career portfolio, a video demonstration of a selected skill common to the chosen health career and a live presentation to the judges. This event aims to inspire members to learn more about a health-related career and become skilled future health professionals.

Clinical Specialty

- Dental Science provides members with the opportunity to gain knowledge and skills required for dental careers. This competitive event consists of two rounds.
- Round One: a written, multiple-choice test
- Round Two: skills assessment (Skills: Assembly and Disassembly of Local Anesthetic Syringe Seat, Prepare and Dismiss Patient for Basic Dental Exam, Treatment Room Disinfecting and Cleaning, Patient Education – Brushing and Flossing, Preparation, Manipulation, Delivery, & Handling of Alginate Impressions, Treatment of Contaminated Tray in the Sterilization Center)
- Aim: Inspire members to learn more about careers in the dental field.

- Home Health Aide provides members with the opportunity to gain knowledge and skills required for supporting patients in their homes. This competitive event consists of two rounds.

- Nursing Assisting provides members with the opportunity to gain knowledge and skills required for patient care in medical settings. This competitive event consists of two rounds.

- Pharmacy Science provides members with the opportunity to gain knowledge and skills required in pharmacy-related careers. This competitive event consists of two rounds.

- Physical Therapy provides members with the opportunity to gain knowledge and skills required for assisting patients with recovery. This competitive event consists of two rounds.

- Aim: Inspire HOSA members to learn more about physical therapy concepts and techniques.

- Sports Medicine provides members with the opportunity to gain knowledge and skills required for patient care in a sports medical setting. This competitive event consists of two rounds.
- Round One: a written, multiple-choice test
- Round Two: skills assessment (Skills: Anatomical Landmark Identification, Joint Action and Maximum Range of Motion Identification, Taping / Wrapping: Ankle (Inversion), Achilles Tendon, Shoulder Spica, Wrist / Hand (Circular Wrist/Figure Eight))
- Aim: Inspire members to learn more about injury prevention, therapeutic intervention, and immediate care.

Sports Medicine

- Veterinary Science provides members with the opportunity to gain knowledge and skills required for diagnosis and treatment of animals. This competitive event consists of two rounds.
- Round One: a written, multiple-choice test
- Round Two: skills assessment (Skills: Identification of Companion Animal Breeds/Species, Preparation of the Operative Site, Simple Fecal Flotation, Lifting and Restraining a Dog, Wrapping a Surgical Pack, Preparing a Feline to Obtain a Temperature)
- Aim: Inspire members to learn more about the field of veterinary care.

Veterinary Science

- CERT Skills provides members with the opportunity to gain knowledge and skills required for disaster preparedness and response. This competitive event consists of two rounds.

- Round Two: skills assessment (Skills: Treating Life-Threatening Conditions, Head-to-Toe Assessment, Lifts and Carries, Splinting a Closed Fracture)
- Aim: Inspire members to be proactive future health professionals and respond efficiently to complex community hazards in the absence of emergency services.

CERT skills

- CPR/First Aid provides members with the opportunity to gain knowledge and skills required for team first aid and basic life support. This competitive event consists of two rounds.
- Round One: a written, multiple-choice test
- Round Two: skills assessment (Skills: Severe Bleeding and Shock, Choking, Open Fracture and Splinting, Severe Burns, Heat-Related Emergency, BLS for Healthcare Providers – Rescuer 2 Initiated, Adult BLS/CPR, Adult BLS/CPR (Rescuer 1 Assists), Adult BLS with AED, Adult BLS with AED (Rescuer 1 Assists), Infant BLS/CPR, Infant BLS/CPR (Rescuer 1 Assists))
- Aim: Inspire members to be proactive future health professionals and be equipped with the skills to provide immediate, life-saving actions in the absence of emergency services.

- Emergency Medical Technician provides HOSA members with the opportunity to gain knowledge and skills required for emergency medical care. This competitive event consists of two rounds.
- Round One: a written, multiple-choice test
- Round Two: skills assessment (Skills: Patient Assessment - Trauma, Patient Assessment - Medical, BVM Ventilation: Apneic Adult Patient, Joint Immobilization/Long Bone Immobilization, Bleeding Control/Shock Management, Cardiac Arrest Management/AED, Oxygen Administration by Non-Rebreather Mask)
- Aim: Inspire members to be proactive future health professionals and be equipped with resilience, physical strength, and problem-solving skills to provide immediate treatment in emergencies.

- Epidemiology provides members with the opportunity to gain knowledge about health and disease in populations. This competitive event consists of a written examination of concepts related to the study of epidemiology with a tiebreaker essay question. Competitors are expected to recognize, identify, define, interpret, and apply these concepts in a multiple-choice test. 
- Aim: Inspire members to be proactive future health professionals and improve their scientific literacy as well as provide insights into public health careers. (This is a test-only event)

Epidemiology

- The Mental Health Promotion event provides HOSA members with an introduction to mental health topics with a grounding in prevention. The event is built on the understanding that "mental health IS health" and that we must think about taking care of our mental health just as we do our physical health.
- This competitive event consists of a team of 2 to 6 members. All team members must first complete the Be There Certificate online course to help increase their mental health literacy. Teams will then create and publish a social media campaign for their peers centered on building and promoting protective factors around a selected mental health topic. This social media campaign will be pre-judged digitally prior to ILC. Teams will present their social media campaign and process to a panel of judges at ILC.
- Aim: Provide information on how to support someone struggling with their mental health and inspire future health professionals to promote the importance of mental health in their schools and communities.

Mental Health Promotion

- Public Health provides HOSA members with the opportunity to develop an effective, dynamic, and creative presentation that informs the public about an important public health issue. The team consists of 2-6 members. The event consists of two rounds.
- Initial round: The team has the opportunity to convince a panel of judges of the need to view their entire presentation.
- Round Two: A panel of judges will view the entire presentation.
- Aim: Inspire members to be proactive health professionals by producing a presentation that educates the public about a selected public health topic. Those who may like this event may be actors or avid public speakers.

Public Health

- Competitors have 1 hour to complete an essay on the secret topic that is health-related.

Extemporaneous Writing

- Competitors showcase three photographs taken of different health science careers. Top competitors advance to Round 2 and present their photos to judges.

Health Career Photography

- Competitors write and follow a SMART goal, documenting their process in a portfolio. The event includes a Round One written test with top competitors advancing to Round 2 where they will present their progress to a panel of judges.

Healthy lifestyle

- Competitors create a digital profile, write a resume and personal statement, and then participate in a simulated job interview with judges for a position of their choice.

Job seeking skills

- This event is for competitors who want to become a Voting Delegate for their chartered association at ILC. Each chartered association may have different processes in place to select their Voting Delegates. All selected delegates will complete requirements and review Executive Council candidate information prior to attending ILC.

Organizational Leadership

- This event involves giving a prepared speech to a panel of judges about the Annual HOSA ILC chosen theme. This year's theme is "Dare To Create!"

Prepared speaking

- This event allows competitors to pose a research question/hypothesis in an area within healthcare and conduct research surrounding this topic. Competitors will create a research poster containing the findings of their research, in addition to presenting this poster and research content to a panel of judges.

- This event allows competitors to take a stand, either for or against a selected topic. Competitors research the topic to gather facts in support of an opinion, write a paper, and then give a speech to a panel of judges.

Researched Persuasive Writing and Speaking

- Teams of 3-4 members will take a Round One written test with top-scoring teams advancing to Round 2 where they will participate in a debate-like format. The topic of debate will be announced annually.

Biomedical Debate

- Teams of 2-4 chapter members work within their community to select a health-related issue and then raise community awareness of that issue. The product of the project is a community event, portfolio of activities, and a presentation to a panel of judges.

Community Awareness

- Teams of 3-4 members will take a Round One written test with top-scoring teams advancing to Round 2 where they are given a secret problem related to a health issue to solve. Solutions are then presented to a panel of judges.

Creative problem solving

Teams of 2 members will take a Round One written test with top-scoring teams advancing to Round 2 where they are given a forensic science case study to analyze. This event may involve the viewing of crime scenes/evidence.

Teams of 2 competitors develop a display of a specific career in health, with top teams advancing to Round 2 where they present their findings to judges.

Health Education

Teams of exactly 4 HOSA competitors take a Round One written test on HOSA knowledge, parliamentary procedure, and medical knowledge. Top-scoring teams then advance to Round 2 where they compete head-to-head with another team in a quiz bowl to correctly answer the most questions.

Teams of 2-4 people will create original Medical Innovations, with top-scoring teams advancing to Round 2 where they will present their original innovation to judges.

Teams of 5-8 members will take a Round One written test with top-scoring teams advancing to Round 2 where they conduct a proper business meeting, addressing the motions provided in a secret problem.

Parliamentary Procedure

Teams of 3-6 people will create a 30-second visual PSA to increase awareness of an annually announced healthcare issue or service topic to be shared with a community audience. For competition, teams will present their PSA and process to a panel of judges.

Public service announcement

HOSA teams work together to develop a project, presentation, and evaluation tool which will be targeted and presented to help a specific audience improve their social emotional wellness. Finalists will be interviewed at ILC only and top selections earn recognition & scholarships in partnership with SAMHSA

Emotional well-being challenge

HOSA members take a written test measuring their knowledge of current health issues. All members who reach a mastery level are awarded Certificates of Achievement.

Healthcare issues exam

The Family Medicine Physician competitive event provides HOSA members with the opportunity to gain knowledge about this career path through interviews, research, and a peer presentation. Competitors will conduct interviews to learn more about family medicine, and then will share their finding with their peers through a presentation. Competitors will present their peer presentation to a panel of judges, showcasing what they have learned. This event aims to inspire members to learn about the dynamic field of Family Medicine and ultimately help AAFP in their goal to ensure that no less than 25% of medical school seniors select family medicine as their specialty by the year 2030.
