If you like waking up to ghosts at the foot of your bed, then here's a couple of places you'll want to book right now.
The dark interiors of the Ace Hotel offer a drastic contrast from the lively pool scene on the top floor. This hotel is located outside of the French Quarter and just steps from Lafayette Square, so if you want to skip the Mardi Gras nightlife and get some shut-eye, you totally can. If you're with a group, opt for the Ace Suite (fun fact: the concierge told me Beyoncé once stayed in the Ace Suite when I was there a couple of years ago).
Address: 600 Carondelet St, New Orleans, LA 70130
Rooms starting at: $140
The Royal Sonesta has NOLA's iconic Parisian look and calls Bourbon Street home. You'll be right in the thick of all the Mardi Gras action here — especially if you're able to pick up a last-minute balcony room.
Address: 300 Bourbon St, New Orleans, LA 70130
Rooms starting at: $189+
The tranquil hotel courtyard at the W is a quiet break from the French Quarter — though you'll only need to walk the two blocks to Bourbon Street to catch Mardi Gras beads galore.
Address: 316 Chartres St, New Orleans, LA 70130
Rooms starting at: $269+
Fresh to the scene as of December, the Higgins Hotel is great if you want some space from all the partying. It's about a ten-minute drive to the French Quarter which means you'll have access to all the nightlife, but you'll also be able to enjoy the Art Deco style of the hotel, walk next door to visit the National WWII Museum, or just kick back in your room and watch the bustle of the Arts District below.
Address: 1000 Magazine St, New Orleans, LA 70130
Rooms starting at: $344+
You'll find Le Pavillion just on the outskirts of the French Quarter. The decadent decor remembers the history of the hotel (which dates back to 1907) and there's delicious creme brûlée at Le Pavillion's Bijoux restaurant, but beware of ghosts — they're supposedly scattered throughout the hotel and are especially present on the ninth floor.
Address: 833 Poydras St, New Orleans, LA 70112
Rooms starting at: $111+
Just a three-minute walk from Jackson Square in the French Quarter, the Bourbon Orleans Hotel will put you just steps from Crescent City's biggest Mardi Gras celebration on Bourbon Street. This hotel was built in 1817 and was once a high-society ballroom and then a convent — so again, watch out for hauntings because this landmark is supposedly one of the most haunted spots in a city that's truly brimming with ghosts.
Address: 717 Orleans St, New Orleans, LA 70116
Rooms starting at: $169+
The Hilton New Orleans Riverside is, of course, riverside. Just one outlet mall away from the Mississippi River and a ten-minute drive to Bourbon Street, you'll have close access to all of the city's happenings. Then back at the hotel, you can unwind at one of the property's two pools or savor charbroiled oysters and some NOLA gumbo at Drago's Seafood.
Address: 2 Poydras St, New Orleans, LA 70130
Rooms starting at: $253+
Everyone loves seeing a little exposed brick on their Instagram feeds, and Old No. 77 Hotel & Chandlery is very in on the trend — the rooms, the lobby, and the hotel's restaurant (Compere Lapin) are all accented with exposed brick! If you can't get the perfect shot at the Mardi Gras parade right outside the hotel in the French Quarter, then the wall in your room will make for a perfect backup shot.
Address: 535 Tchoupitoulas St, New Orleans, LA 70130
Rooms starting at: $278+
Your stay at the Troubadour won't be complete without a pregame at their rooftop bar, Monkey Board. Just because the hotel is located in the Central Business District doesn't mean the artistic draw of Crescent City is lost! If Monkey Board's wall art wasn't enough on its own, the contemporary art in all the guest rooms makes for a perfectly stylish stay away from the chaos of Bourbon Street.
Address: 1111 Gravier St, New Orleans, LA 70112
Rooms starting at: $254+
The Saint Hotel may be located a block away from the Museum of Death in the French Quarter, but its interiors are as fresh and alive as ever. If you stick around for a few days after the celebration, check out Trixie Minx’s Burgundy Burlesque troupe at the hotel's Burgundy Bar on Friday night.
Address: 931 Canal St, New Orleans, LA 70112
Rooms starting at: $349+
The Hilton New Orleans/St. Charles Avenue is located three blocks away from the French Quarter, so you can get yourself to and from Bourbon Street with ease. Come back to the hotel for a nighttime bite, though, because they serve up some classic NOLA eats — like shrimp and grits — at their Creole-inspired brasserie, Luke.
Address: 333 St Charles Ave, New Orleans, LA 70130
Rooms starting at: $325+
Henry Howard originally built the property in 1867 as a double-gallery townhouse, but it has since morphed into the 18-room Henry Howard Hotel. It's located in a quiet neighborhood in the Garden District with a bunch of other historic homes, so you won't have to fight off crowds hurling beads your way. Though, if you want to be hit in the head with at least one beaded necklace on your trip, you're just a 15-minute drive to Bourbon Street.
Address: 2041 Prytania St, New Orleans, LA 70130
Rooms starting at: $299+
Le Méridien is just as shiny on the inside as it is on the outside. The contemporary decor, trendy cocktail bar, and rooftop pool will have you ready to come back and wind down after your day of celebration! You can also just keep the party going with a couple of French martinis at the on-site Longitude 90.
Address: 333 Poydras St, New Orleans, LA 70130
Rooms starting at: $219+
The Eliza Jane is built within nine historic warehouses that line the area just outside of the French Quarter. The buildings once housed liquor, gunpowder, and The Daily Picayune newspaper, but have since transformed into 196 guest rooms, a French brasserie called Couvant, a bright red lobby library lounge, and a brick-accented garden courtyard.
Address: 315 Magazine Street, New Orleans, Louisiana, 70130
Rooms starting at: $299+
