Pete Holmes Accidentally Told Malia Obama To Shut Up, And I Can Just Feel The Secondhand Embarrassment

"I'm like, 'What is going on?'"

This is Pete Holmes. He's a stand-up comedian who also created and starred on the HBO show Crashing.

Earlier this week, Pete appeared on Conan and talked about stand-up, Oscar snubs, and some of his most recent sets.

Conan asked Pete if he'd ever recognized people in the audience, and Pete actually said a lot of times when he's performing he doesn't even know when a famous person is sitting there.

Which sparked Pete's story about his most recent performance in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

He was onstage doing his thing, and noticed two women in the audience were still "whispering, and laughing, and giggling."

So he tries to tell them to stop...but they didn't.

Then he really went off on them, hoping to get a laugh from the rest of the audience.

    Spoiler alert: They didn't laugh.

And finally, after the show Pete realized why nobody laughed.

Pete was shocked. Conan was shocked. Even I was pretty shaken up after hearing that Pete Holmes told Malia Obama to "shut the fuck up."

And just in case you were wondering, Pete and Conan are on the same exact page about this whole thing.
