Which Race In Skyrim Is Best For You Based On Your Playstyle?

What is your preferred weapon/fighting style of choice?

Situational question: You're traveling along the road when suddenly a bandit leaps from the bushes, armed with a mace, and charges at you screaming, "You picked a bad time to get lost, friend!" What do you do?

Finally, choose a dog.

These tall, golden-skinned elves hailing from the Summerset Isles are the perfect pick for the mage. With all of their highest skills residing in all of the forms of magic, and natural higher magicka level, you'll get a great head start into becoming the most powerful mage in Skyrim.

Altmer (High Elf)

This reptilian race coming from the swamps of Black Marsh are ideal for the treasure hunter or thief. With high sneak and pickpocket skills, as well as the ability to breathe underwater and even resist disease, playing as an Argonian as a thief will give you the upper hand and before you know it, you'll be the richest lizard in Skyrim.

Argonian

The Wood Elves of Valenwood are the most skilled and lethal archers in all of Tamriel; some even believe they invented the bow. As a race that lives in the trees and within the natural world, they are resistant to disease and poison, and their skills allow them to be great thieves, and of course, archers.

Bosmer (Wood Elf)

As a mix between human and elf, the Bretons of High Rock are the most magically inclined race of humans, making them excellent mages. They are highly resistant to magic, and also very skilled in Conjuration.

Breton

This dark gray-skinned race of elves coming from the equally gray and ashy Morrowind make for great thieves and battlemages. With high skills in sneak and Destruction magic, the Dark Elves channel their volcanic homeland through their magical abilities, making them not only skilled with fire magic, but also giving them a natural resistance to fire.

Dunmer (Dark Elf)

This humanoid race from the grassy, rolling hills of Cyrodiil are perfect for the treasure hunting warrior player. As they are well-trained in the use of heavy armor and one handed weapons, as well as having the natural luck of finding more gold in places than any other race, the Imperials are strong and educated, the latter being somewhat of a gem in the nordic province of Skyrim.

This cat-like race hailing from the warm sands of Elsweyr are the best thieves in all of Tamriel. Highly skilled in sneak, pickpocket, lockpicking, archery, and one-handed, as well as having the natural feline-esque ability to see better in the dark, playing as a Khajiit thief will make you one of the quietest, most lethal, and potentially richest individuals in Skyrim.

Khajiit

The Nords are right at home in their cold, snowy Skyrim, and are the best race choice for the classic warrior. They are strong, skilled in two-handed weapons and block, and are also naturally resistant to frost, thanks to their frozen homeland.

Nord

The Orcs come from all over Skyrim, and are known for their immense courage and toughness in war, making them perfect for the warrior player. The green-skinned elven-like race are of the greatest smiths in Tamriel, and are remarkably skilled in heavy armor and two-handed weapons.

The Redguard coming from their desert homeland of Hammerfell are some of the most naturally skilled warriors in Tamriel. With their skills of one-handed weapons, archery, and even some skill in Restoration magic, a Redguard gives the chance for a variety of different playstyles, although they are most notably warriors or scouts.
