Dr Who And "Bake Off's" Nadiya Are Counting Down Tim Peake's Mission To Space

Tim Peake is due to blast off in ten days, and celebrities including Peter Capaldi, Graham Norton and Gary Lineker are giving him a good send-off.

On 15 December, Tim Peake will become the first British astronaut to travel to space in more than 20 years.

Former army helicopter pilot, Peake, will spend six months on the international space station carrying out science experiments and vital maintenance work.

With just ten days to go until Peake is due to leave the Earth, ten British celebrities, have today begun the countdown in a trailer for the BBC.

Among those giving Peake a super-starry send-off to space are Gary Lineker, Graham Norton, Strictly's Claudia Winkleman and Tess Daly...

Bake Off's Nadiya Hussain has baked a "good luck" cake for the occasion...

The Clangers are ready to welcome him...

...And declaring the final "blast off!" is none other than Dr Who himself, Peter Capaldi.

Peake's blast off on a Russian Soyuz rocket will be broadcast live by the BBC on Blast Off Live: A Stargazing Special at 10.30am on 15 December.

"We'll be counting down with thousands of schoolchildren at the Science Museum and with the nation on BBC One as Tim Peake rockets into space," the show's presenter, professor Brian Cox said.

But best of all, tiny on-board cameras will allow us to see the look on Peake's face, live, as his blasted at thousands of miles-per-hour into the galactic beyond.
