Wild Pictures Of The North's Snow That Will Make Southerners Jealous

"All the northern kids are playing in the snow and I'm sat behind a desk in London like a chump," one woman tweeted.

Around 5cm of snow fell in parts of Yorkshire and Lancashire on Thursday and the Met Office has predicted more cold weather in the region over the coming days.

Leeds Bradford Airport was forced to close temporarily as a result of the snow and more than 100 schools in Lancashire, Greater Manchester, Yorkshire and Leeds were closed on Friday.

While travel was disrupted, with several road closures between Lancashire and Yorkshire, plus reports of abandoned buses in Manchester, many were able to enjoy the snow.

"Looks like I have woken up in Narnia," one West Yorkshire resident told the BBC.

On Twitter, "Snow" was trending on Friday morning as people shared images of their wintery back gardens.

While the Met Office's weather warning for snow across northern England and Wales was due to end at 3pm on Friday, low temperatures mean that the snow is likely to stick around throughout the weekend.

"The good news for anyone stuck in the office instead of frolicking in the white stuff is it's likely to hang around across Greater Manchester over the weekend," Manchester Evening News said.

Down south some people seemed jealous that they hadn't received a blanketing of snow.

"All the northern kids are playing in the snow and I'm sat behind a desk in London like a chump," one woman tweeted.
