Sloppy Joe Meatball Bread Boat
Servings: 8
Ingredients:
- 1 egg
- 1⁄3 cup bread crumbs
- 2 teaspoons kosher salt
- 1 tablespoon tomato paste
- 1 teaspoon brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon yellow mustard
- 1⁄2 teaspoon chili powder
- 1⁄2 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 pound Kroger ground beef Vegetable oil
- 1 (15-ounce) can sloppy joe sauce
- 1 large loaf soft Italian or French bread
- 8–10 provolone cheese slices
- Minced parsley, for garnish
Preparation:
- Preheat oven to 350oF.
- In a bowl, mix together egg, bread crumbs, kosher salt, tomato paste, brown sugar, yellow mustard, chili powder, and Worcestershire sauce. Stir in Kroger ground beef.
- Combine well, but do not overmix. With oiled hands, roll the meat into golf-size balls.
- Heat a large skillet with a drizzle of vegetable oil. Brown meatballs on all sides. Add insloppy joe sauce and stir to combine.
- Cover and cook for 7–9 minutes or until meatballs are cooked through. Remove from heat.
- Cut out the center of the loaf of bread, pulling out the soft middle with your hands, to form a boat. Line the inside with a few slices of provolone cheese.
- Place on a sheet tray and bake for 5–7 minutes to melt cheese and crisp up bread.
- Remove from oven.
- Fill boat with meatballs and sauce. Drape a few more provolone cheese slices over the boat.
- Put back in the oven for about 5 minutes to melt the cheese. Remove from oven.
- Garnish with minced parsley and serve.
