You Know You Studied Abroad In Florence, Italy When You...

Just some well-known Florence Finds! Everyone at Penn State knows the go-to places you MUST visit. These are all things in Florence that you must eat at, hangout at and take pictures at.

1. Walk to the Bridge at Sunset just for pics

Stand at the infamous Bridge connecting the Pointe Vecchio right at sunset for the best views and picture perfect moment. You can't study abroad without stopping here with your friends for a photo.

2. Become a regular at Gusta Pizza

You know its worth the walk of crossing over the bridge and waking three miles, when Gusta Pizza is on the other side. You know you did Florence the right way when you go there weekly and ask for their famous "heart shaped pizza."

3. Rely on the Duomo to find your way home

No matter how many times you may get lost wandering the streets of Florence, and are unable to use your google maps (due to the fact you don't wanna go over data) just remember to always look up for the Duomo. This will always help you find your way back home!

4. Post a photo on Snapchat of your Cappuccino Art

Everyone wants cappuccino art- and this shop is the place to go to. Go here and get a surprise drawing made up in your cup of coffee - anything from the Duomo to the Pointe Vecchio. The place to be is ‘New’s Cafe’ in the San Lorenzo neighborhood. You didn't study abroad in Florence unless you posted a photo of this work of art to your Snapchat story (at least once!)

5. Climb the treacherous steps of the Duomo

"Do it for the Instagram" is what everyone says while climbing the hundreds of steps up to the top of the Duomo for the most beautiful, scenic picture of all of Florence.

6. Become accustomed to Aperitivos daily

You can't live in Italy unless you learn to embrace 'Apertivo.' This is the Italian version of happy hour. Along with a cocktail, you can basically have a light dinner in many local places around town with plates of meat and cheeses for a social hour or two.

7. Have the entire city as your Instagram Backdrop

Everyone knows to visit the Piazzale Michelangelo more than once when in Florence. This hilltop town offers the sickest panoramic views of the city. Not only does it have a great walking path for hikes, but people also enjoy bringing food for picnics, or just going up to take the perfect Instagram picture.

8. Take a part out of your day to ride the one-of-a-kind carousel

A carousel in the middle of Italy's shops and restaurants might make it the coolest carousel ever. And thats exactly why you have to ride it once. The Piazza della Republic is located right in the middle of the city's square.

9. Have Gelato every night for dessert

Gelato becomes a part of your everyday meal. No day is complete without your small dose of delicious gelato. There are plenty of options in the city, enough for you to try a different one almost every day during your trip. After your trip, every student knows to avoid the shops with the monstrous gelato towering over the tubs inside the glass cases, and to never buy gelato anywhere that also sells pizza/pasta/self-service. The best gelato should usually range between 1.50 – 4 euros (for a huge amount, and boy is it worth it).

10. Take a bottle of wine to the Pointe Vecchio

You know you did Florence right when you and your friends take a euro bottle of wine and head to the Pointe Vecchio. This is the go to spot for an anytime of the day hangout. You can't study abroad without taking and posting a picture here, with a bottle of wine in hand!
