This year has been a landmark year for new horror movies. Whether you went back to the movie theaters (A Quiet Place II, anyone?) or stayed home and streamed (The Conjuring 3 and Fear Street were notable) you've probably seen a scary movie this year. Don't Breathe 2

In this sequel to the surprise 2016 hit, Stephen Lang reprises his role as the Blind Man. Here's what Sony Pictures has to say: "Eight years later, Nordstrom/The Blind Man, lives with 11-year-old Phoenix; he has recreated the family that was stolen from him by a drunk driver and has found the twisted justice he's always felt was his due. When intruders once again come to his home, this time focused on Phoenix, Norman will reveal for a second time what's hidden inside him… and again, it will be in new and unexpected ways." Directed by Rodo Sayagues.

The Night House

Rebecca Hall (The Town, Godzilla vs. Kong) plays a woman who is left alone in a lakeside house her husband built, after his unexpected death. After having strange visions, she begins to go through her husbands belongings and finds horrifying secrets she never expected. Directed by David Bruckner

Candyman (2021)

RELEASE DATE: August 27.

Horror master, Jordan Peele, produces this revisioning of the classic 1992 film about the urban legend, Candyman. The setting of the first film, the Cabrini Green projects, has now been gentrified and turned into luxury condos. Abdul-Mateen's character, Anthony, is an artist who moves in with his girlfriend. He begins to learn about the horrific events that took place decades ago, "unknowingly opening a door to a complex past that unravels his own sanity and unleashes the terrifyingly viral wave of violence that puts him on a collision course with his destiny." Directed by Nia DaCosta.

Malignant

RELEASE DATE: September 10.

Aquaman director, James Wan, returns to his horror roots with this original horror movie made from an idea he came up with himself. Not much is known about the film, starring Annabelle Wallis. Here is the official description from Warner Bros: "In the film, Madison is paralyzed by shocking visions of grisly murders, and her torment worsens as she discovers that these waking dreams are in fact terrifying realities."

Halloween Kills

RELEASE DATE: October 15.

Jamie Lee Curtis, Judy Greer, and Andi Matichak, are all back in this direct sequel to Halloween (2018). The events take place immediately following the events of the first film (which, itself was a direct sequel to the original 1978 film). Plot details are being kept under wraps but the recent trailer suggests that this time, the entire town of Haddonfield will join together to try and take down the evil Michael Myers. The final film in this new trilogy, Halloween Ends, arrives next year. Directed by David Gordon Green.

Last Night in Soho

RELEASE DATE: October 22.

Edgar Wright, writer and director of Shaun of the Dead, directs this stylistic horror film starring Thomasin McKenzie and It Girl, Anya Taylor-Joy. McKenzie plays a young woman who is transported back to London in 1966, finding herself in the body of her singing idol, played by Taylor-Joy.

Antlers

Guillermo del Toro (The Shape of Water, Scary Stories To Tell in The Dark) produces this original horror film about a teacher (Keri Russell) in a small town who becomes concerned about one of her students after she suspects he is keeping a supernatural creature inside his house. Directed by Scott Cooper.

Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City.

RELEASE DATE: November 24.

The long-running Resident Evil franchise is getting a full reboot with this new reimagining of the popular video game series. The new movie will apparently take on a more horror-heavy approach unlike the action-centric approach of the original film series. Familiar characters like Claire Redfield, Jill Valentine, and Albert Wesker are back, this time played by a much younger cast. Sony hopes to start a new franchise with this reboot. Directed by Johannes Roberts.
