We've all been there: scrolling every individual streaming service one by one, wandering endlessly with the goal of finding a reliable show to satiate us. It's the modern day equivalent of hunter-gathering.
After a grueling journey through endless options, I usually end up rewatching a comfort show that can be trusted, or take a chance on something that a random person online recommended. It feels like a safe bet to dive into something that was already vouched for, even if that approval was from a literal stranger.
The risk is that the internet is an infinite wasteland of strong opinions, especially when it comes to what content to consume. Everyone is always ready to throw hands over their favorite shows and endorse them with heartfelt passion. If you take someone else's recommendation, you may end up finding your new favorite show. Alternatively, it might leave you wondering, "This is the 'best show ever'? What was this person thinking?"
Just hearing that it's someone's ✨favorite show ever✨ may be enough to check it out, but not enough to actually like it. Everyone has different taste, so one person's go-to show might be another person's worst show ever. When you're getting a recommendation from a stranger online, it would be way more beneficial to your next TV binge to know what kind of shows that person likes to begin with.

I'll go first: I loove the ever popular show, How I Met Your Mother. I think anyone who loves this show will have a good time watching a criminally underrated show with HIMYM vibes: Happy Endings. It's super similar with early 2010s nostalgia, quick pacing, and hilariously convoluted plots with flawed but likable characters.
Or, maybe you're a big fan of The Office and can't believe it when you hear fellow fans of the show say they haven't checked out Abbott Elementary, a sitcom that also nails the mockumentary format, complete with knowing stares into the camera.
