Christian Bale recently chatted with Yahoo Movies about his own time as Gotham's vigilante, Batman, now that Ben Affleck is taking over the reins.
And, in retrospect, he said director Chris Nolan certainly accomplished all he could with the trilogy, but Bale didn't do all he had hoped he would with the caped crusader.
He wasn't especially comfortable in the costume, and decided to use it "as a means of...it's his true monstrous self that he allows to come out in that moment."
But his plans for making Batman a darker character were halted by Heath Ledger, who came on and stole the show with his portrayal of the Joker.
