18 Reasons To Love CSU

There are more reasons to love CSU than one can count, but here are 18 to get started. I say I am proud to be a CSU Ram!

2. We put the "Green" in Green & Gold

Colorado State University is committed to sustainability efforts that conserve and protect the environment. So much so, that CSU has been acknowledged and awarded for their efforts. CSU is ranked #4 by The Princeton Review in the Top 50 Green Colleges and is ranked #1 by BestColleges.com as the Greenest University. In 2017, CSU President Tony Frank signed a pledge that commits CSU to be 100 percent powered by renewable energy by 2030.

3. CAM the Ram

How could you not love CAM the Ram? Not only is he absolutely adorable, but a fierce and stalwart mascot. 'Nuf said.

4. We are big on bikes

CSU is named a Platinum Bike Friendly University, adding to its list of sustainability accolades. There are more than 10 miles of bike lanes on campus, AND they are marked with our favorite Ram.

5. We have the third best veterinary school in the nation

Currently ranked third in the nation for our Doctor of Veterinary Medicine Program, CSU provides state-of-the-art care to animals, big and small. CSU veterinarians perform groundbreaking research and development, like developing the first FDA approved treatment for canine lymphoma. As an added bonus, their Veterinary Teaching Hospital Instagram account shares cute puppy pics on the reg.

6. Horsetooth Reservoir is a quick ride away

Only a 10 minute drive from campus is Horsetooth Reservoir, where CSU students and Fort Collins residents enjoy hiking, boating, swimming, mountain biking and more!

7. You can major in beer

Well, it is actually called Fermentation Science and Technology and they do more than just beer, including fermented food and other beverages. With more than 18 craft breweries in Fort Collins and more to come, this town loves all things craft beer and is the perfect place to study up on old and new brews.

8. You can get in touch with campus wildlife

Here, you will have close encounters with nature on campus. Some of these critters include confident and conniving squirrels trying to swipe your snack or the migrating geese who swarm the intramural fields. Just beware of the hawk that hunts Sherwood Forest.

9. This could be your classroom

CSU’s Mountain Campus is 1,600 acres where students and researchers can complete academic field studies and research. You can spend your summer in the Rocky Mountains doing challenge courses, fly fishing, field research and more!

10. Old Town Fort Collins

Old Town Fort Collins, the place that inspired Walt Disney’s Main Street U.S.A., is a quaint spot for students and Fort Collins residents to enjoy, while supporting local businesses. Brunch spots, breweries, shops, festivals and more, there is something for everyone in Old Town.

11. CSU President Tony Frank is practically a celebrity

Easily spotted by his infamous beard, CSU President Tony Frank is known among all students. With a Tony Frank sighting often comes whispers, fan photos and sneaky Snapchats.

12. CSU relationship goals

From meeting hall mates as an awkward freshman to watching each other succeed as graduation passes, some of your most important friendships and relationships will be forged in your years at CSU.

13. Our Aggie roots run deep

The Aggie "A" looks down on our land-grant university, whose school colors used to be "Pumpkin" and "Alfalfa". Could we be anymore proud of our agricultural roots? We celebrate by painting the "A" during Ram Welcome, Orange-Out games, Ag Days and more.

14. We have notable faculty and alumni

Recently added to the National Women's Hall of Fame and one of our most notable faculty members is Dr. Temple Grandin. As a professor at CSU for Animal Sciences, she is known and revered for her research and consultation in autism, animal behavior and handling. Other notable alumni or faculty members include, Dr. Tony Frank, Becky Hammon, NASA astronaut Kjell Lindgren and comedian Leslie Jones.

15. You get to experience the best state there is

At least we like to think so. It is hard to be bored in Colorado, with all of the State and National Parks, ski resorts, lakes and rivers. Not one for extensive outdoor activity? Try a concert at Red Rocks Amphitheater or a walk around Downtown Fort Collins or Denver. Or you can just sit back and take in the view of the beautiful Rocky Mountains.

16. Labor Day weekend is the best time to be a CSU Ram

First, you get to go to Denver to support our Rams playing against the rivaled Colorado Buffaloes at the Rocky Mountain Showdown. The next day, New Belgium Brewing Co. hosts Tour de Fat, a festival celebrating Fort Collins' bike, beer and music culture. It is a weekend that is looked forward to by Fort Collins residents, CSU students and alumni.

17. Our students are proud to be CSU Rams

Of course, Colorado State University would be nothing with out its students. They make this university what it is with their passions, hard work and pride. I say I am proud to be a CSU Ram!
