In today’s 2018’s Britain’s Got Talent story, we have the author and mind-reader Hannah Jackson. After a record 30-minute audition in Cardiff, Wales, sharing stories from her book, Jackson’s mind-reading was given a practical test. Could she give detailed, personal and work advice to an unknown, unseen woman from China? The woman - through Britain’s Got Talent - sent Jackson a relationship and a work issue, and six, bedroom-pictures. Passing that test, Simon Cowell wanted Hannah Jackson to mind-read pictures of the judges’ dressing room at the London Palladium. From pictures on a big screen, Jackson would make evidence-based judgements on the judges. However, seconds before she steps on stage, Jackson is informed: there are no pictures. Without the basics for her act (like a piano-player without her piano) Jackson answers Cowell’s questions whilst he seems to have difficulty with her title, Room Reader. A few in the audience start a chant: “Get her off!” Unshaken, she suggests Amanda Holden be lead judge and explains why. Holden, Alesha Dixon and David Walliams beg Cowell to move, even pull at his chair. He refuses. Jackson addresses Alesha Dixon personally who responds: ”I love this Hannah. I really feel I do this. Wow! Nobody’s ever said that to me before.” Cowell wants an example of Jackson’s mind-reading rooms that’d helped someone, where others had failed. And Jackson gives one. “I could do that,” says Cowell. The whole 2,000 crowd are now screaming: “Get her off! Get her off!” “No, no, I love this. It’s brilliant,” says Amanda Holden. “Let’s vote,” says Cowell. This bulletin begs several questions: Where were the Room Reader’s pictures promised by Cowell? With a crowd so hostile so fast, were there plants? Why, at no point, did Cowell raise a well-tested hand to silence the crowd - who’d heard so little? Why did Cowell insist judges vote on an act that did not happen? When does a talent show become fake TV? And what remains in the minds of a hostile crowd once they’re on the street?
