Sadly, I was not born with beachy, perfect waves. In fact, my hair has a natural half-straight/half-kink thing going on, so when I want to look presentable with my hair down, I always rely on my curling iron.

The only flaw of my curling iron is...pretty much EVERYTHING. It takes forever, the heat exposure is bad for my hair, my arms get tired, and I've burned myself at least a hundred times β€” all in the name of achieving some sexy curls.

Now of course, I would never get rid of my trusty Conair curling iron. But some days I simply need an alternative that's not as tough on my hair (and my weak arms, and my schedule).

I recently came across these $13 foam curling rods by Tifara Beauty on trusty ol' Amazon dot com, and was truly impressed with the reviews and photos for a product so simple. People with a variety of hair types swear by these things!

The set comes with 42 rods and six sizes for creating different-style curls, and are super easy to use. Of course, like everything, it might take you a few times to master them β€” but there's no heat involved, so at least you won't be frying your hair (or if you're anything like me, constantly burning yourself).

The rods have over 4,000 reviews, a 4.4-star rating, and create some phenomenal results.

"I have thick 4c hair and I love this set. I usually have the smaller rods at the ends of my hair and have the bigger rods at the top of my hair. My hair came out so curly. It really reminded me of movie-star curls because it has been such a long time since I have seen my hair curl without having to use heat to it. I will either use a curling cream or a curling gel and leave the rods in overnight and then I get my curls in the morning." β€”Amazon Customer

"Tried these for the first time yesterday. They were super easy to use, not horrible to sleep on, and easy to take out. Curls were full and fell nicely. I didn't have to untangle my hair or pull to get these rods out. Please know I am a 30-something-year-old who has no hair skill at all, so these are great for women like myself who throw their hair in a ponytail and go because they lack skill." β€”alyce heifner

All you have to do is wrap a piece of hair around the rod, roll it up, and bend the rod in half to ensure your hair stays put. Some reviewers mentioned they've seen results in as little as a couple hours, but play around with them to see what works best for you.

"I really do enjoy these rollers. They are very easy to use and give great waves. I've tried multiple different sizes and placements of the rollers. Every time I use them I get great dimension β€” you basically can't go wrong!! I've decided they work best after a shower/blow-dry. I leave my hair barely damp β€” I mean 90% dry. I put the rollers in my hair and continue my morning routine (breakfast, kids, makeup). I take them out basically as I am walking out the door. Run a brush or fingers through and boom! I save SO much time and I actually look put together! I have young kids and I have not been able to find a morning hairstyle groove to keep me put together β€” I found it and love 'em! I think they are great and fun to use!" β€”Marvelous Melissa

And because these foam rods come in six sizes, you can create different style and lewks.

The thinner rods work for tighter curls and the thicker rods produce more wavy locks.

"I absolutely love these!!! I was skeptical at first and now they are part of my every-night routine. I love having carefree curls that last as long as I do without having to put heat on my already-dry-from-bleaching hair. I would recommend these for any and everyone who is tired of the heat and the smell of a traditional curling iron or wand. I will never go back!" β€”ZombieCakez

    They work on long hair...

"Great alternative to heat curls. My hair is thick and heavy. Normally if I use foam rollers it's super-'80s curly in the morning and completely flat by the time I get home. I used this today and the first pic you see is me in the morning after I have pulled out the rollers and 'fluffed' and shook my hair to get the curls to separate. You can see it's tighter as my hair sits on my shoulders easily. The last pic (right) is me at the end of the day β€” hair dropped a bit but still held the curls. I damage my hair a lot using heated curlers and so I'm going heatless for a while. I bought the curl mousse with this (coconut oil and something else mixed in) to give it volume. Loved it." β€”M. Barker

They're even great for lil' kids who don't want to sit still while you carefully curl their hair with a hot iron.

"I have two daughters with different hair textures, and they have been begging me for a long time to curl their hair. I have been hesitant due to not wanting to hurt their hair by using a curling iron. When I saw this product, it looked easy, so I bought two packages. The curling rods were easy to put in their hair and only had one fallout in the middle of the night. They woke up with curly hair, and delighted squeals (8 and 10 years old) and the curls lasted for two days. I will probably end up buying two more as their hair is long and I ran out of the size I was wanting to use. Super easy to use, very happy little girls, love these!" β€”Amy S.

Basically what I am trying to say here is: Give your hair a dang break from all the heat and try out these wonder curling rods!
