Bird Box: A Harry Potter Inspired Story

Bird box. Harry Potter. Completely unrelated? I think not. Spoiler alerts ahead if you have not watched and/or read either one.

So I've seen a few articles saying that Bird Box is essentially a rip-off of The Happening and A Quiet Place. But I have a different theory. You're probably going to think I'm crazy but hear me out. All Harry Potter fans remember the boggart scene from Harry Potter and the prisoner of Azkaban (and from the book of course) For those of you who don't know what a boggart is: "A Boggart is a shape-shifting creature that will assume the form of whatever most frightens the person who encounters it. Nobody knows what a Boggart looks like if nobody is there to see it, although it continues to exist, usually giving evidence of its presence by rattling, shaking or scratching the object in which it is hiding. Boggarts particularly like confined spaces, but may also be found lurking in woods and around shadowy corners."

SOUND FAMILIAR?

So in the movie the mysterious monsters are invisible and they embody peoples worst fear. Therefore everyone is seeing something different. Which is why we never see them. A lot of people think they're aliens. But what if they aren't?

Now obviously its not EXACTLY the same but picture this. Boggarts are strange non-beings in the Harry Potter universe. What if some of them got out and start roaming around the muggles. Wizards and Witches have the riddikulus spell to get rid of them. But muggles have nothing. And what if it affects muggles differently? And instead of just embodying fear it brings depression and suicidal thoughts? I mean it would be scary to see your worst fears in front of you with no way to get rid of them.

Clearly I'm reaching but in my head Josh Malerman has read Harry Potter and was clearly inspired.
