I Want To Know The Biggest Culture Shock You Faced Moving From A Major City To A Rural Town (Or Vice Versa)

When I left the city, I had to relearn the rules of the road.

After four years of living in a major city, my life completely shifted when I moved just one hour away to a sleepy suburb bordering cornfields. Gone were the days of strolling outside my apartment to wander shops and street fests, and gone were the days of nearly missing my train before work!

Despite being mere miles from my old life, culture shock was a thing. I was able to run errands without the extensive planning of a walking route or train schedule, but I had fewer diverse restaurant options for takeout. The neighborhood felt more laid-back and serene, but I missed the exciting energy.

This was my experience relocating from the city to a suburb, so I'm extra curious to hear stories of culture shock from urbanites who moved into rural living, or vice versa.

Maybe you lived in a farmhouse and now live in a skyscraper. Maybe your life is a Hallmark movie and you went from a soulless city job to finding happiness in a quaint town where you feed sheep and cows on the weekend.

City and rural living can be two different lifestyles. If you've experienced both, share your story in the comments below (or via this anonymous Google form) for a chance to be featured in an upcoming BuzzFeed Community post!
