"But I Think There’s Just Some Pairings You Want To See Over And Over Again" — Director Weighs In On Margot Robbie And Ryan Gosling's "Ocean's 11" Prequel

"I think there’s just some pairings you want to see over and over again."

In 2022, it was revealed that Ryan Gosling was set to join the cast of the upcoming Ocean's 11 prequel, starring opposite none other than Margot Robbie.

Until recently, we hadn't heard much about the film, other than the fact that Margot is reportedly producing. But director Jay Roach has opened up a bit more about the details of the film in an interview with Lindsey Bahr.

Roach says that the movie is set to take place in 1962 Monte Carlo and, in a departure from other Oceans movies, will feature a love story in addition to the heist that takes up the central plot.

"Margot brought it to me as a kind of old-fashioned love story slash adventure disguised as a heist," Roach told Bahr. "It is a heist movie still, but it's very much a love story."

Roach is perhaps best known for directing Bombshell, which Margot also starred in, as well as the Austin Powers movies.

We're still not sure what the heist will be, of course, but Roach says that the movie will have "The Monaco Grand Prix [as] the backdrop, and there’s a big famous shipping magnate who has a yacht."

Steven Soderbergh's early-aughts Ocean's trilogy, famous for having an almost entirely all-male cast, didn't exactly feature much romance, and some fans are speculating if that's what Ocean's really needs.

But I, for one, can't wait to see Margot and Ryan running around Monaco and getting into trouble. Of the pair, Roach said that "originally there were some questions about whether it would be weird to have [the two] together again after Barbie. But I think there’s just some pairings you want to see over and over again. It’s such a powerful, powerful duo, you know?"

It's unclear as of yet when the movie may be released, but if it's riding off the high of Barbie, hopefully we could see it in 2024.
