Unhealthy choices: Alcohol or Soda

As we all know, soda and alcohol both cause serious health issues. Yet, we all tend to have one or the other constantly. Now, lets say even with all the health issues they cause, you are only willing to let go of the unhealthier one, which would it be? While I was growing up, I was lead to believe alcohol was always a healthier choice. But I still always wondered, why is it that alcohol is restricted as well? So I decided to do a little research of my own. Throughout the research I found out both have a lot of similarities when it comes to the effects on the body. For instance, both lead to diabetes and obesity. The average can of soda contains 40 grams of sugar while the average person should not consume more than 38 grams per day. Of course if you where to drink one soda, it would be fine every once ad a while. The problem is that people tend to consume it everyday. Alcohol, on the other hand , contains on average about 21 grams per every 5-ounces. Yes it is less then soda, which technically makes it healthier, but many of us still tend to over drink. On the plus side, if you drink more than four sodas, I can assure you it will still be ok for you to drive. Looking deeper into the health effects from drinking soda, I found that it increases your chances of being diagnosed with coronary artery disease. The increase rises about 20 percent if it is consumed moderately. On the other hand, if alcohol is consumed moderately, it is said to decrease your chances of dying and doing your heart some good. Just so you guys no, moderate doesn't mean going out and over drinking every weekend either. I found that the down sides about drinking alcohol is liver failure. It takes the liver about one to two hours to cleanse the body from one drink of alcohol. To moderate drinkers, that should be no problem at all. But that is not the case. There are many people that like to abuse alcohol. That is when the liver failure comes in. From reading a reading by BMS Microbiology, I found that even liver failure can be prevented by consuming plenty of fiber. Therefore from comparing the two, I do strongly believe that alcohol is healthier than soda. Of course it all depends on how often it is consumed.
