1. Humans aren’t the only ones who lie

Animals use deception as a way to survive and reproduce. There are four levels of nonhuman deception: appearance, coordination of perception and action, learning, and planning.

2. Self-deception is REAL

We lie to make ourselves feel better. We convince ourselves something we want to be true is true. Or we twist it and tell ourselves something is false when it really is true.

3. Exaggeration is a form of deception

There are five types of specialists in lying and deception: Imposers, imposters, con-artists, hoaxes, and personality disorders.

Over all, people are not very good lie detectors. Even the professionals, like detectives, are bad at lie detecting lies. However, assisted lie detectors slightly increase our chances of correctly detecting lies.
