5. A Feast For Crows

This book is still pretty great, just more in its own way. I know it's sort of part one of the same story that the first half of A Dance With Dragons has but it feels so separate to the series. Sometimes this is good but sometimes it feels out of place. The weakest area of the book is the Sansa chapters, which serve little purpose. The highlight of the book is the Dorne and Iron Island chapters. The introduction to these stories are so amazing and make me all the more excited for the last two books.

4. A Game Of Thrones

Whilst being an almost perfect setup for a book series, giving some amazing foreshadowing and hints for the upcoming books, it is this low on the list, as it just doesn't succeed to bring as amazing diversity to its perspectives on the wars and politics as it does in future books. All you have is one Lannister, Dany and Starks as POVs. Its a decent selection for the setup but if it was to push itself it could've had another Lannister or Baratheon. The weakest point for me was probably Catelyn, in this book, although in the next two books I believe she becomes far more compelling. The highlight is Jon Snow and our introduction to his world.

3. A Dance With Dragons

A Dance With Dragons is the latest installment in the series. After A Feast For Crows, it gives us the characters we know well again and by the second half even shows us characters introduced more recently as well. It really gives a wide look at the world of ice and fire, before we are thrown into the last two installments. I like that and don't have a whole lot bad to say, other than a couple of thrown in, uneeded chapters. The weakest part was the characters that just had one or two chapters, that could've been added to the next book. The strongest part was the Theon chapters, as we were reintroduced to Winterfell, its new leader and the conflicts taking place there.

2. A Clash Of Kings

Going right in with the highlight of the book, the battle of Blackwater Bay. A five chapter, epic, fantastic, character and plot driven battle. It was the absolute highlight of the book and, not just that but, we have the start of the war of the five kings. Catelyn's chapters follow Robb (and a bit of the Baratheon brothers) the new king in the north, Theon has a great character arc, as his chapters see the Greyjoys rise, in the power of Balon, the king of the Iron Islands, Tyrion and Sansa have chapters, getting glimpses of Joffery, the bastard on the Iron Throne and Davos, one of my new favorite characters, follows the Baratheon conflict, mainly Stannis. This build up, concluding in Blackwater but also knowing the war isn't over is amazing. The only possible weakness here might be Arya's first couple of chapters.

1. A Storm Of Swords

A Storm Of Swords is the war of the five kings, at its most. We have so many journeys and two thrilling weddings. Arya and The Hound are a new amazing duo. Lady Stoneheart is an amazing perception of revenge. Ygritte and Jon's story is just beautiful. Tyrion's story towards the end is heartbreaking. The whole story from start to finish is what A Song of Ice and Fire should be. This is currently my favorite book of all time.
