They say hindsight is 2020 but, does 2020 mark the start of a new decade? Or does the newest decade start with 2021?
The New Decade Starts with 2020
Mathematically, when a number ends in zero, it usually creates a new sequence. For example, we have 20, which is followed by 21, 22 and so forth.
The New Decade Starts with 2021
The Farmer's Almanac talks about the elevator analogy. Essentially, a person enters an elevator on the first floor. Therefore the first marks the beginning of a decade.
Another argument looks at the calendar and suggests that the new decade starts with 2021. The Christian calendar starts at one rather than zero.
Conclusion
The big question is whether 2020 marks the end of a decade or the beginning of a new one. This is a decision that society gets to make.
