    A Brief Look At Cryptids

    From Nessie to Bigfoot.

    What is a Cryptid?

A cryptid is a species that has its existence disputed. For example, Bigfoot and the Loch Ness Monster, Nessie, are examples of cryptids.

People who studied cryptids are known as cryptozoologists. Cryptozoology is a pseudoscience. A cryptozoologist's goal is to discover the existence of these creatures.

    What is the Point?

There have been cryptids that turned out to be real. The okapi was once thought to be a mythical creature. It was known as the African unicorn. In 1901, Sir Harry Johnston, a zoologist, sent an okapi skeleton and skin to have it classified. People classified the Okapai johnstoni as a new species.

    The FBI Involvement

According to the Washington Post, Peter Bryne, a Bigfoot hunter, found a tuft of hair and a piece of skin. He sent the sample to the FBI and found his answer 40 years later. The answer was rather underwhelming. Bryne learned that the sample is from the deer family origin.

    Why is this Important

People are consistently discovering new species. In May, a study suggested that an extinct animal evolved back into existence. We do not know what exists until we find evidence.
