Sam Asghari Speaks Out After Filing For Divorce From Britney Spears

His statement comes a day after his court filing.

Sam Asghari is breaking his silence after filing for divorce from Britney Spears.

On Wednesday, Sam petitioned the Los Angeles Superior Court for dissolution of his marriage. According to the court filing, Sam cited "irreconcilable differences" as the basis for his request.

The next day, Sam issued a statement on his Instagram story, noting he "decided to end our journey together."

"After 6 years of love and commitment to each other my wife and I have decided to end our journey together," his statement read. "We will hold onto the love and respect we have for each other and I wish her the best always. Shit happens."

"Asking for privacy seems [ridiculous] so I will just ask for everyone including media to be kind and thoughtful," he continued.

Britney has not publicly addressed Sam's filing on social media. Her most recent Instagram post, from Wednesday, detailed her plans to buy a horse.

The couple married in June 2022. Madonna, Selena Gomez, Drew Barrymore, and Paris Hilton were among their wedding guests.

On Wednesday, Brandon Cohen, a representative for the actor, told the Hollywood Reporter that Sam is not "challenging" their prenup.

In light of the news, BuzzFeed has learned that Britney is doing great, moving on, and focused on new music and her forthcoming memoir, The Woman in Me.

According to the court filing, Sam is requesting spousal support from Britney and for the singer to pay his attorney's fees.

BuzzFeed has reached out to representatives for Sam for comment regarding his Instagram story and court filing.
