Demi Lovato Revealed She Has Mixed Feels About The Infamous Poot Lovato Meme, And I Totally Get Why

She opened up in a recent interview with Harper's Bazaar.

Demi Lovato, who uses both she/her and they/them pronouns, is many things. She's a singer, actor, and performer. And, if you're extremely online, you know she's also the subject of two iconic memes.

The first is "GET A JOB. STAY AWAY FROM HER!" According to Teen Vogue, the origin story for this meme is Demi commented those two sentences on Instagram to a super fan who'd posted a photo with Demi's sister. It's since become a popular reaction meme when two or more people or things are together in a way that you wish they were not.

In March, she re-created the meme in support of Scream VI.

They're also the face of Poot Lovato, a widely shared doctored photo of them that, according to Know Your Meme, originated on Tumblr in 2015.

The TL;DR of the meme is that Poot Lovato was reportedly created to be a twin sister to Demi. It eventually spawned countless memes.

Now, years later, Demi has shared her thoughts on the meme and its longevity. Unsurprisingly, she wasn't exactly a fan of the doctored photo at first.

"When Poot went viral, that actually sucked because I thought that was a real picture of me. And I was like, oh no, that's a really bad angle. But Poot was photoshopped. Later I felt better about it because I realized that wasn't my face," they told Harper's Bazaar in an interview on Friday.

"It was definitely weird when it went viral," she continued, noting the meme is now "really funny to look back on."

This isn't the first time Demi has acknowledged the meme. According to Mashable, Demi said in 2015 in a now-deleted tweet, "Cool to see a shitty angle turn into a meme that circulates the Internet to people's amusement ha" and added in a second tweet "Oh and makes actual 'headlines.'"

Then, in 2017, she tweeted the photo without a caption.

So, all these years later, it's good to see that Demi seems to be on good terms with the Poot situation. You can check out Demi's full interview with Harper's Bazaar below:
