People Tried A Drunk Driving Simulator And Got A Real Wake-Up Call

"It's terrifying and I'm in a tiny parking lot."

According to Mothers Against Drunk Driving, 2 in 3 people will be involved in a drunk-driving crash in their lifetime. So we had some people attend a course on what it would feel like to drive drunk to give them some perspective on how dangerous it actually is.

In 2003, Ford initiated Driving Skills for Life to teach teens how dangerous drunk driving is with a series of programs.

The program had a series of courses: They used weights on different body parts, a muffling system for the ears, and a set of goggles to throw off the vision, to make students feel inebriated.

Some of the participants had never been drunk before…

...and started to question why people enjoyed it so much.

While others struggled to pass the nose test.

With goggles that impaired their vision, they had to do a "sober-lap" where they couldn't hit the cones.

A couple participants tried to drive differently than how they normally do to try to make it easier...

...but realized that no matter what, drunk driving was not only extremely dangerous but also terrifying.

Overall, the experience was a reinforcement for everyone that when you decide to go out, plan a way to get to and from home safely.
