John Gara / BuzzFeed Anything that's going to remind an anxiety ridden ball of stress like me to take a moment to breathe is a good thing! When you shake the jar, the glitter clouds the water. You're only able to see the crystal again by waiting and letting everything settle to the bottom. Making your own mindfulness jar is actually super simple. Here's how to do it: 1. Start with any clear jar with flat, tight-sealing lid. John Gara / BuzzFeed 2. Choose an object to glue to the lid that will be what you focus on. John Gara / BuzzFeed You could put anything you want on the lid as long as it'll withstand being submerged in liquid and has a flat enough surface to make contact with the lid. I used a clear quartz crystal wand that stands sturdily on its own. (I got mine on Amazon — $21 for 3-4 wands.) 3. Glue the object to the inside of the lid using a strong adhesive. John Gara / BuzzFeed (I used E6000 glue, which will run you $3.09 on Amazon.)Once you glue your object to the lid, let the adhesive dry overnight. 4. Add water and clear craft glue to the jar. John Gara / BuzzFeed First, fill about 2/3 of your jar with water. Then add clear washable or water soluble craft glue to fill the jar to the top. The craft glue helps keep the glitter suspended longer in the liquid, but it's totally optional to include. Experiment with the amounts of craft glue you use for longer suspension times. 5. Add the glitter of your choice. John Gara / BuzzFeed I used extra fine craft glitter for mine. Stir the glitter around, allowing the glitter to settle. Scoop any glitter out that may be floating at the top that didn't sink to the bottom. Tightly screw your lid on to the jar while trying your best to avoid getting air bubbles inside. John Gara / BuzzFeed Make sure the jar is filled to the brim before screwing on the lid. I poured a little craft glue onto the lid around the crystal before screwing the lid on which helped reduce the amount of air bubbles. Now, you might be asking yourself, "How am I supposed to calm down when this thing is constantly reminding me that glitter is destroying the planet?!" John Gara / BuzzFeed If you're concerned about microplastics (like glitter) and their adverse effects on the environment, you could use all-natural mica powder instead. Tap to play GIF Tap to play GIF John Gara / BuzzFeed Using mica powder ($10.99 for a set of 24 colors on Amazon) will give you a dense pearlescent cloud. It looks very much like a monochromatic version of the surface of Jupiter. The mica powder also stays suspended for much longer than the glitter, so you won't need to add any clear craft glue to the water. My mica jars took about 20-30 minutes to fully settle after shaking. John Gara / BuzzFeed Next time you're feeling stressed, give your jar a shake, sit back, watch the glitter settle, and just breathe.
