The Best Cities in the World to Visit

With influences in food, music, art, media, technology, and culture, the greatest cities around the globe have shaped our present - and are carving out our future. Exploring some of these exhilarating urban landscapes simply has to be on everyone’s adventure radar. Here are seven of the most impressive cities I’ve had the privilege of spending time in.

Venice

Get lost. No, really – you have to get lost in Venice. It is not only close to impossible not to misplace yourself in the city’s meandering streets, it’s also probably best to explore this incredibly unique city in a mild state of confusion. You’ll be completely overwhelmed anyway. Of course, you will at some stage have to get around in a gondola. And don’t forget to have a gelato (or two, or three).

Porto

Be free, find love and eat, eat, eat. By far friendlier than Lisbon and surprisingly less ‘touristy’ than cities in the Algarve, Porto is an excellent city for making friends. Nights out are relatively affordable and the food, oh the glorious food…

This is where you can find your inner rock star. Berlin, re-imagined and revitalized screams out transformation and hedonistic delights. New York

High fashion, performance art, architectural marvels, world-class shopping and unbeatable cultural fusion is only part of what defines New York. The Big Apple cannot be defined, it has to be experienced. Make sure you spend at least a couple of weeks doing this. Go to Central Park, see the Statue of Liberty, visit Times Square and make sure you get in a Broadway show, even if you’re not a fan of musicals. This is one city where I’d highly recommend typical tourist activities.

Dubai

On par (and probably surpassing) France in terms of sheer opulence, Dubai is alluring, luxurious, and very shiny – a glamorous playground. This city is innovative and exudes an air of absolute excellence. The shopping malls make you feel like you’re in a sci-fi movie and the surrounding desserts are breathtakingly majestic. Dubai’s palm-shaped islands and ridiculously tall buildings are apparently only the beginning of this city’s transformation into a hyper-futuristic haven. Next on the cards are flying taxis, an army of robocops, and the lightning-fast hyperloop train.

Chicago

Happy and proud, Chicago has been voted as the greatest city in the world many times over. The live music and culture, along with its affordability and all-around excellent vibe, is what keeps it on the lists year after year. I love Chicago because it kind of feels like it loves me.

Hong Kong

If you approach Hong Kong by air you will be accosted by a visually delicious juxtaposition of towering skyscrapers surrounded by lush green islands. And this is only the start of the city’s captivating contradictions. Colorful traditions and wondrous temples meet high-tech gadgets and innovation around every corner. Are you ready for this seductive mix?
