The Art Of Chill: As Experienced At Canoe Bay

You know when it is time to disconnect, get out of dodge, and snuggle up with your main squeeze. As everyone's time is at a premium, dashing off for an extended weekend can be the cool solution for hot bonding time, but after the dance of syncing schedules is done, there's still the matter of selecting the perfect place. When it comes to romance, environment can make, or break, a mood. There's nothing worse than trying to get in some "we" time, and the space is channeling your grandma's bedroom (unless you're into that), your ears are assaulted with the shrill cries of little ones, and the food tastes like bad takeout. So, when we chose Canoe Bay for our getaway weekend, I hoped (hard) they understood how to bring the relaxation. Intrigued? Check out our weekend:

The moment my husband and I exited the winding tree-filled path and hit the entrance of Canoe Bay near Chetek, Wisconsin (about six hours northwest from Chicago); I knew we were in for a special experience.

Our excitement mounted as we were escorted to our cottage; and when we opened the door, it was clear we were at the right place for a delicious long weekend.

The 25 Canoe Bay lodging options are on 300 acres of private land, far from roads, noise, hustle or bustle. The cabins are aggressively spaced, so when you look out of the huge picture window in the bedroom, or chill on your private deck, all you see is Mother Nature's handiwork.

King beds, private deck, iPod dock, flatscreen TVs with DVD player, wet bar, mini-fridge...these are some of the standard features in most of the modern-meets-comfortable accommodations. Some have yummy extras like heated floors and a carport.

These adults-only cabins are designed for two adults (couples are optimum); so be sure to call the sitter (the same goes for our four-legged babies).

The ding-dong, dash breakfast and lunch is everything! You let them know via a form what time you'd like breakfast (which is included) and lunch, and they come by, ring the bell, leave it on the ledge, and vanish like ninjas. This way, no one ever has to see your raging case of disheveled morning hair.

Dinner is the only meal you emerge from your love den to enjoy in dining room; and the fresh, local, delectable menu is worth it.

To further amp up the suave factor, reserve the Wine Cellar table ($120/person as of April 2018) for a private couple's dinner in the beautiful redwood cellar. The braised black angus short ribs were so tender, we ate them with a fork.

The "True" Two-Person Whirlpool Tub😍... Canoe Bay gets that not everyone is 5'2" and 100 lbs – and it shows in their roomy tubs.

Each season brings its own version of gorgeous; and the paths are open year 'round for your enjoyment (our winter stroll turned into the BEST snowball fight).
