It's the most wonderful time of the year for people who just want to be cozy and who think cold brew is overrated.

But it's also the time of year when you realize that all your sweaters are covered in pills and you have to either commit to the tiny pompom ~lewk~ or buy new sweaters.

Or so I thought, until I got my hands on the Conair Fabric Defuzzer, the little device that is giving my sweaters (new) life.

I was a little concerned about letting anything with the name "shaver" near my beloved sweaters, but its more than 3,500 five-star reviews won me over. (Apparently it's great for upholstery as well as knitwear, which which should come in handy when I decide it's time to start investing in decorative pillows.)

And DAMN, did it work.

My test subject was this six-year-old cashmere sweater that pills when you look at it crooked. It's pretty delicate, but it looks so scraggly that I figured there wasn't much to lose.

In the five-ish minutes it took me to run the shaver over it, my sweater was transported back to 2011 (take me with you??).

The defuzzer is super easy to use. it makes a soft humming noise, but not enough to disturb me while I was watching Mindhunter.

It's a simple little gadget: There's an on/off switch and three distance settings so you can control the closeness of your shave. They're (somewhat confusingly) labeled as small, medium, and large. Reviewers recommend starting out on the Large setting, which sets the blades farther from the fabric. I ended up using the medium setting on this sweater with no ill effects.

All the little fuzzballs collect into a neat compartment that you can slide out and empty. It's incredibly satisfying — I think it might be my own personal version of ASMR.

Honestly, my only complaint is that it requires two double-A batteries, and that's only because ugh, who has batteries?
