    Snoop Dogg — friend of Martha Stewart, renowned rapper, and all around cool guy — knows a thing or two about cooking.

    He recently published his own cookbook and hosts a cooking show with Martha Stewart, so it's safe to say he knows his way around the kitchen.

    So when I came across his recipe for mashed potatoes that called for a rather ~unexpected~ ingredient, I knew it was for a good reason. 🤔

    Snoop wouldn't steer us wrong!

    The secret ingredient? A half cup of regular ol' mayonnaise folded into the mashed potatoes.

    Yep, the stuff you spread on sandwiches and make potato salad with is Snoop's secret weapon for making the best mashed potatoes ever.

    His reasoning for adding it? Extra creaminess and a better texture. ✓

    "Adding it to mashed potatoes makes them taste so whipped and all fluffy, you wouldn’t believe it," says Snoop. "Just don’t over-mash or it gets sticky," he warns.

    And as strange as it may seem, adding mayo to mashed potatoes isn't actually a new concept.

    After doing a bit of research, it turns out that many recipes call for the unexpected condiment — making it a go-to addition for many people's mashed potatoes. Folks online note that it makes them lighter, creamier, and even adds a subtle tangy flavor similar to sour cream.

    And let's be real: If you think about it, mayonnaise is pretty much just eggs and oil, so it's not that weird of an addition. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
