51 Easy Upgrades For Anyone Who Spends A *Lot* Of Time In Their Home Office

These little improvements might just make you love your at-home 9-to-5 a bit more.

    1. A slim laptop stand to raise your laptop and bring it closer to eye level, especially handy if you use it with a desktop monitor. This is better for the overall ergonomics of your setup, but it also ensures your laptop gets ventilation and doesn't overheat.

    2. A desktop whiteboard that fits in that lil' space between your monitor and keyboard for writing quick notes, ideas, or even motivational messages for yourself. A little pull-out drawer holds your dry-erase markers and other small accessories!

The dry erase board with the words "Isn't this fabulous?!!!" written out on it

    3. A Bluetooth speakerphone if you're still relying on your laptop speakers for video calls. This'll noticeably improve your audio by reducing background noise and enhancing your speech, and you'll hear your colleagues more clearly as well, making it an improvement for everyone involved.

You can also use this as a regular speaker for music and podcasts and the like, and hook it up using an AUX cord or an included dongle. Conveniently, it also has a button to mute and unmute yourself, so if you're using different video platforms (or your kid is online learning) it's easy to just mute yourself manually if you can't find the button right away on the screen.

Promising review: "I've found this speakerphone to be useful for a variety of circumstances. Like many of us, I've found myself working from home a lot during the pandemic. It was difficult to even find a webcam for awhile, and when I finally did, people on the line could not hear me through it. That was why I decided to buy this product. Once I started using it as my microphone during cam sessions on Zoom and other platforms, coworkers immediately noticed how much clearer it was to hear me. The speaker on this product sounds nice, making it more enjoyable to listen to conference calls. You can also play music through it, so it can quickly become a way to get a nice little stereo wherever you may be in your home or office when paired with your phone. This is a well-thought-out product with a lot of versatility. I can connect to it quickly through a variety of ways, such as Bluetooth, the included auxiliary sound cord, or the included dongle. It also comes with a USB cable which can charge this device up quickly. I also like that it's all black with a slick design that looks good in my office. It has a slight weight to it, which helps to keep you from accidentally knocking it to the floor yet is light enough that I can easily throw in my briefcase." —J

Promising review: "This is a great device to organize all your mobile devices and charge them as well. I did not understand the LED function, but when you turn it on, each slot that is actively charging has slight blue glow to the divider. At a glance, you can see which devices are charging and which are charged. I like this. It is not so bright that it is distracting. I also love the fact that all my devices are now organized in one place with nice short codes for charging. Gone are all my cords snaked around on my desk. I am using it for both iOS and Android devices. The device only came with lightning cables, so I purchased some 6-inch USB-C cables for my Android devices. Everything is working great and looks great too. Also the device has a nice long power cord so it easily reaches to the wall plug for power." —Amazon Customer

After seeing this coffee warmer all over BuzzFeed Shopping and even gifting my dad one for Christmas, I finally decided to buy one for myself. These come with a 24-key remote that controls the 16 different colors and four dimmable modes.

Promising review: "I purchased these to backlight my computer monitors and they work great. Very easy to apply (peel and stick) and easy to configure. 16 different colors, including white, can be selected via the remote control plus dimming. I think that background lighting can be more useful for computer monitors since you sit so much closer to them than your television. Also, the light given off by your monitor tends to be harsher since you are often viewing documents or other scenes with a white background. I'm thinking of purchasing longer strips of these lights to use as under-cabinet kitchen lighting or even to illuminate the toe-kick area. You could set different moods by adjusting the intensity and color." —GMak

    44. Or an adjustable tablet stand stable enough to hold a large tablet (up to 12.9 inches), even with a case on, yet compact enough to sit on your desk without taking up much space. Made of aluminum alloy with protective silicone pads at the bottom, it's cleverly designed to stay upright and in one place, with room for airflow and a charging cable to pass through.

Of course, you can use it as a phone stand too.

Promising review: "I got this for my iPad. It is compact enough to sit on my desk without wasting space but large enough to hold the iPad securely. I love the tilt feature and the fact that it holds the iPad vertically and horizontally. I have a case with a lid and bumpers around the edge, but it fits perfectly." —Glory Stafford

    45. A standing desk converter, because we all know sitting for hours straight is terrible for our health. With this, you can easily take standing breaks throughout the day while still working, and when you're sitting, it functions as a regular monitor stand so you can set your screen at eye level.

    46. Or a sleek and beautiful electric standing desk if you're ready to go all-in on the sit-to-stand office life. With just the tap of a button, it'll raise itself up in a matter of seconds, and you can save up to four height presets so you're not having to readjust each time! It also has a child lock feature to avoid accidental activation *and* three handy USB charging ports on the side.

    47. An Echo Dot, one of Amazon's most popular (and adorable) smart devices. It'll become your best office buddy, letting you play music and podcasts, check the weather, and even set routines to have Alexa remind you when to take breaks, eat lunch, and (most importantly) log off for the day.

    48. A low-impact (and low-profile) under-the-desk elliptical that can help you work movement into your daily routine to keep you loose — because productivity takes a nose dive when you're distracted with aches and pains.

    49. Or a compact under-desk electric treadmill made for the multitasking mavens who want to incorporate *even more* movement into their sedentary WFH schedule. It has an LED display that shows basic metrics like time, speed, and distance; a quiet motor (so you can focus on the work in front of you); and Bluetooth capability so you could even play music or a podcast through it.

See it in action in this TikTok! Its speed range is 0.5–6mph and its weight capacity is 220 pounds.

Psst — You'll see more than one brand mentioned when it comes to walking pads on TikTok (where they're currently super popular) including the Umay under-desk treadmill — it comes in pink (!) but just an FYI that it isn't reviewed as highly on Amazon.

Promising review: "This thing is awesome. I'm a small, not technical person and managed to haul this thing up two flights of stairs (slowly), unbox, turn on and even connect my phone to the Bluetooth in it. No assembly. Simple instructions. Distance and time measurements seem to be accurate, but the 'calories' might be missing a decimal point. No squealing or groaning under my walking. Not too loud. Slides right under my bed. Didn't need to adjust the belt, though the tool to do so is included. Packaging says to oil every 30 hours. The remote is needed to make the treadmill function. It is extremely cheap — like dollar store cheap. I hope the company has a remote replacement for if/when the remote bites it. Even still, I would 100% buy this again. Great treadmill!" —Crowells
