If You Don’t Own These 42 Cat Products Yet, You’ve Gotta Be Kitten Me

But hey, now's the purrfect time to fix that.

    1. ChomChom pet hair roller that I will never stop writing about because it's the only thing that's saved my VELVET couch (bad idea, I know) from my two cats who just looove lounging there. It doesn't mess with sticky tapes or paper; instead, you get a reusable brush that grabs up every bit of hair and lint as you clean — just empty it out after, and you're good to go again!

The tens of thousands of 5-star Amazon ratings are reason enough to add the ChomChom to your cart immediately — but let me add my own personal review to the stack. I've been using the ChomChom for quite a while now, but I took the photos above (on the left) literally just now to show just how quick, easy, and effective this roller is. It took 10 seconds to rid my velvet couch ottoman (yes, velvet...a terrible cat owner choice, I know) of the hair my two gray kitties are constantly leaving everywhere. It takes a bit of practice to get the hang of using this roller — at first, I thought you only brushed down in one direction, and was confused why it wasn't picking up hair. It's important to do a push-and-pull brushing in *both* directions so it actually pulls the hair inside, which does require you to apply a bit of pressure. Afterward, you'll just dump out the hair that's been trapped inside. The ChomChom is best for large flat surfaces like couches and beds.

    2. A double-layered litter mat because of the sheer volume of litter being tracked out of the litter box on a daily basis. It has a honeycomb design that catches and traps litter so it doesn't scatter across your floor. You can then press in on the sides to open up the mat and dump the trapped litter back into your litter box, or slide it into the trash can, whichever you prefer!

I've been using this trapper mat for over a year now, and while it's pretty much impossible to eliminate all litter from your home if you own even one cat, let alone multiple, this mat has made keeping the floor of my litter box room MUCH more manageable. Unlike other mats, where the litter just kind of sits on top and eventually gets kicked elsewhere, this mat is designed so that the litter falls through the holes and stays inside the mat until you're ready to dump it. It's made out of an EVA material that's supposed to be gentle enough for cat paws, and my two kitties don't seem to have a problem walking on it. I *highly* recommend getting the larger 30-by-24-inch mat to extend the coverage area — I initially got the smaller one but went back for the larger size and it's perfect. Note that the mat will probably have a fold down the middle when it first arrives, but just give it some time and weigh it down with something if needed; it'll lay flat.

    3. An odor-eliminating spray you should have on hand for when you locate that latest carpet accident. Not only does it lift away stains; it also releases enzymes that break down the deep and persistent odors left behind.

Carpet messes are undoubtedly the worst to clean up — it's "funny" how they always choose to have their accident there — but you can also use this on clothes and other surfaces like concrete and hardwood. Just be sure to follow the instructions carefully for non-carpet use.

When it comes to my own experience with Rocco & Roxie, well...let's just say we're no stranger to cat accidents 'round these parts, and I keep this stuff stocked at all times. Between my younger one's hairballs and my older one's vomiting, I've accidentally stepped in piles of yuck more times than I care to count, and this bottle is what I reach for whether the mess is on my hardwood floor or carpet. It always lifts the stain, without any detectable odor left behind.

Rocco & Roxie is a family-owned small business named after the Magleby family's pets Rocco, a Labradoodle, and Roxie, a former shelter tabby cat. They make a variety of pet supplies, including cleaners, treats, grooming tools, accessories, and toys.

    4. A cozy window hammock so they can catch the sun's warm rays *and* have the best view for their daily window watching. It's extra sturdy with suction cups capable of holding over 40 pounds, enough to hold multiple cats, a bed, and toys.

Promising review: "Great hangout spot for cats, especially for sun-facing windows and if you don't have a lot of floor space. We got two, one for each of our cats, and they love hanging out and watching the birds. One of our cats uses the support strings to clean his teeth. Despite his best efforts, the strings remain intact after over a year of him strumming away at them like a one-string bass in a bluegrass band. Good work!" —Amazon Customer

    5. A self-grooming cat toy for the kitty who just loves you SO much, they can't get enough of your neck and cheek scratches. Now when you're not around, they'll have somewhere they can go for that sweet relief.

Promising review (get ready, this is my favorite cat name ever): "My cat Gambino Bambino would let you brush him bald!!! He loves to be groomed and comes running whenever the brush comes out. Though we love to accommodate, I know he wanted more. He was constantly rubbing his cheeks and ears on the corner of our walls to get even more scratching. I finally came across this product and knew he would love it! It took a little convincing but once he got a hang of it he’s been loving it! We have one in the living room, one in the kitchen, one at the top of the stairs and one in the guest room! He is having a great time!!! Very easy to put together and place on the wall." —T. 6. An Aspen self-warming bed if you're tired of buying cat beds that your kitty simply ✨ ignores ✨ — this bed broke that years-long cycle for me and I've now bought *two* of them so each of my cats can have their own. Aside from just being irresistibly cozy and the perfect shape, this smartly designed bed uses their own body heat and reflects it so they have a toasty place to nap at all times — including when you're not home to cuddle them.

    Jenae Sitzes / BuzzFeed

This is THE cat bed, y'all. Neither of my cats have ever really taken to a cat bed and much preferred to doze on their cat tree or curl up on a regular blanket — until I finally caved in and bought the Aspen self-warming bed a while back. IMMEDIATELY upon placing it on my couch, one of my cats crawled into it and happily began napping. As soon as he moved away, my other cat jumped in to take it for a test run as well — and immediately curled up as well. After about a week of them taking turns using it (literally, the cat *not* in the bed would lay next to it waiting for the other to leave — my polite boys 🥹), I realized I needed to buy a second one. They immediately took to that one as well, and now, they both have access to their favorite bed whenever they like!

Whenever I put my hand underneath them, I can definitely feel how warm they are underneath, so the bed's self-warming feature seems to work well. I think what they love most about it is the shape and how unbelievably cushy it is. And the sides of the bed are supportive enough for them to put their heads on, but still flexible enough for them to stretch out however they like. While the listing recommends this bed for cats under 10 pounds, larger cats will be just fine, as my older cat Sneaky is quite large (his affectionate nickname is "Chonky"), and he adores this bed. Most of all, I love knowing they won't be cold at night, especially when I'm away from home. Knowing I'll never have to waste money on another cat bed that sits unused is just the cherry on top. Highly recommend!!

    7. An interactive Cat Dancer toy that's quite literally steel wire with some rolled cardboard at the end — and yet, it'll likely bring your cat an unreasonable amount of joy as they jump, flip, and twist trying to catch it. It'll entertain them for hours without a heavy hit to your wallet, proving that sometimes, the best toys are the simplest ones.

Promising review: "Have you ever wanted to see a feline version of Tony Hawk (without the skateboard)? Buy this piece of wire and cardboard paper and your dream will come true. There's not much of my furniture and walls that I HAVEN'T witnessed my kitty doing wall walks and flips off of in order to chase this toy. Not only that — she puts so much super-feline effort into catching this toy that she ends up PANTING and having to take little rests every minute or so. When my husband first purchased this cat toy, I rolled my eyes thinking it would be completely ignored by our cats and end up in the garbage. Now I know it is the only surefire way to get my cats up and moving, playing, exercising, and bonding. Best cat toy on the planet!! Buy two or three, because they will need to be replaced after a little while, depending on how much your kitty chews on the cardboard bits." —Valarie

    8. A standing scratching post your cat can let out all of their clawing urges on *instead* of your sofa, since the upright design lets them fully stretch out while they scratch. The wood base is super sturdy, and the neutral color helps it blend in well with your decor!

cat scratching on the standing scratching post
cat sitting on top of the post

I've had this post for several years, and it gets plenty of use by my younger cat, Chicho, who looooves to fully stretch out while he scratches. The base really holds it down and doesn't wobble when in use, and it sits unobtrusively next to their cat tree — I honestly forget it's there until someone's scratching on it. All in all, a very solid option if you've yet to get your cat a scratching post, which is def an essential unless you like claw marks on your sofa and chairs.

Get it from Amazon for $49.99 (available in two colors).

    9. Or a cactus version also covered in natural sisal — it'll let them get out all their scratching urges, and the moppy fabric on the top and base will feel great to nuzzle against. And also, to state the obvious: It's CUUUUTE.

a cat laying around a cactus cat tree

If you have an area with a lot of plants in your home, this would look particularly cute near there!

Promising review: "Wonderful! Finally a cat tree that my cats like to scratch! I tried the A-frame, flat infinity-shaped one that goes on the ground, a regular rectangular one that's cardboard-type material, and the arched triangular sisal one — the cats didn't like any of them! Can you believe it! Spoiled brats 😏 Anyway, the cactus one is the first tree that both the kitten and the one-year-old cat like! The ball attached to it was picked off in the first week. That's easy to attach back on. The rest of it is super durable. The green goes great in our house because we have a lot of plants and it just blends in with the other greenery." —The Microchik

    10. clear toy blocker to stop all their toys and balls from *immediately* ending up underneath the couch and other furniture, putting an end to one of the most annoying cat owner chores: going around and "rescuing" their toys for them. And because it's made of durable plastic, it's not something they'll be able to rip up and destroy either!

It can also help discourage them from hiding under furniture!

Promising review: "A must-have for ALL pet owners. This contraption is genius and will save cat (and dog) owners huge amounts of time and frustration retrieving toys. We used this beneath our oven and it works PERFECTLY. Cat can't destroy it (the way she shredded the foam insulation we had stuffed under there before) and we no longer have to get the yardstick out when literally all of her toys are 'gone.' Yes, this is a challenge to install, but 100% worth it. I'd buy it again in a heartbeat." —Allison Goldstein

    11. A canister of creamy lickable cat treats that are high in moisture to help them stay properly hydrated — but more importantly, they're deliciously savory and irresistible to kitties. You just tear one open, and they can lick it directly from the tube like it's Go-Gurt for cats, or you can squeeze some out into a bowl or on top of their regular food.

a cat putting their nose inside the container of lickable cat treats
A grey and black cat licking cream out of a lickable treat packet

These lickable cat treats are such a crowdpleaser — even Chicho, who generally turns his nose up at crunchy treats, loves to get in on the action whenever I offer him one of these lil' tubes. And considering it has an average 4.8 (!) out of 5 stars on Amazon with over 4,000 ratings, it seems my kitties aren't alone in loving them. It's so easy to tear open a pack, and I love being able to feed the treat to them directly like Go-Gurt. They also came in clutch a while back when Sneaky (who was later diagnosed with a low-grade form of lymphoma) stopped eating and was throwing up from his stomach being so empty. The Churu lickable treats were the only thing I could coax him into eating — and while they're not a replacement for meals, they're high in moisture and were able to tide him over until his vet visit. And if you have to give your cats medications regularly, these can help disguise the flavor.

Get it from Amazon for $35.99.

    12. An automatic water fountain so you can be sure they *always* have access to fresh water (and not worry about that one rowdy kitty knocking the water bowls over when you're not around). Cats prefer to drink from running water, and this fountain maintains a steady stream that should actually encourage them to drink more water, a healthy habit that can help with kidney issues down the road.

It comes with three replacement filters and a mat.

I have this exact fountain (though I did pair it with a cuter mat), and both of my cats took to it immediately — I do feel like they drink *way* more water with it around, and I love not having to stress about refilling their water bowl every single day. It's super quiet with only the lightest trickling sound (which is honestly kind of relaxing), and it gets louder when the water gets low inside, signaling to you that it's time to refill. I always do a quick clean with soap and water at that point, too — it takes no more than a few minutes. Just be sure to do a deep clean of the filter every so often, too. It pops open really easily for cleaning!

Get it from Amazon for $25.99 (available in two colors).

    13. For outdoor cats who like to spend their days rolling around in dirt, a waterless dry shampoo to clean their fur while also saving both of you the trauma of giving them a bath.

Promising review: "Vet said I needed to start bathing my cat. She's older now and doesn't do the best job. No matter how much she grooms herself, she still feels a little greasy and has a lot of dandruff. This foam is so easy to apply. It goes on wet but a good rub followed by her favorite brush and it was easy-breezy. Her coat is clean and smells fresh now. No more heavy greasy feeling. Seems like the dandruff is not as bad either. Wish I knew about this years ago." —Runner

    14. A pair of professional nail clippers because trimming those claws will help immensely if they're tearing up every bit of furniture in your home. It can also help if you have two cats who like to play a little too roughly and prevent them from accidentally hurting each other.

    Reviewer photo of the clippers

Seriously, using this should be part of your regular routine if it's not already! You can start with just one or two nails at a time to get them used to the process, and of course, be sure to give them a treat afterward 😊

Promising review: "I have a new adult cat that I rescued who was scratching everything in sight. I ordered these and immediately sat her down to start work. I was terrified I was accidentally going to hurt her but it was so easy for both me and her!! I had to do one paw at a time because she started to squirm from being held still too long, but they worked great and I’m so happy with them!" —blushingsooner

    15. Silicone pet food lids capable of keeping that open can of wet food fresh in between feedings, which your kitty would probably appreciate! These lids fit most can sizes thanks to multiple rings on the inside, and their versatility doesn't end with pet food — you can use them for storing open cans of soup, tuna, coconut milk, and all sorts of random ingredients.

I've been using these for YEARS and they have held up well for storing my cats' wet food in the fridge as well as for covering any other open cans — particularly useful for those recipes that, for instance, call for 6 ounces of something and you only have a 10-ounce can. I've never had a can not fit one of these lids. I love them because they don't just keep things nice and fresh for longer; they also keep the smell from spreading around my fridge, *and* they're reusable — I just pop them into the dishwasher after use.

Promising review: "Our cat was destroying the corner of our brand-new sectional, so I was excited to try these out. I didn’t want to try sprays or anything with pins that puncture the couches. I was a little worried about the quality of the adhesive, but the screen has been holding up and my cat no longer scratches that corner. There are plenty of screens in the package to add more if she finds a new spot." —NKakanis

    17. And a carpet scratch stopper in case they have a fixation on the carpet under your door, which isn't just waking you up at night — it's causing damage that might force you to kiss your security deposit goodbye if you rent. It slides right underneath your door so that when they go to scratch, their claws won't find anything to grip onto, eliminating the habit for good.

KittySmart is a small business that invented the CarPet Scratch Stopper so scratched carpet would never be a concern, hoping to reduce declawing in cats.

Promising review: "My cats were DEMOLISHING the carpet under the door of my bedroom and the front door. Yes, both! I had literally tried EVERYTHING I could think of to get them to stop, and nothing worked. I was getting terrible sleep because I'd be woken up by the scratching. Well, my friends, the scratch stopper has done it! It worked instantly, and my cats have given up their scratching. I love this product!! This is the ONLY thing that has worked for me. I was so grateful to find it online, and it has worked like a charm. I highly, 100%, absolutely recommend this product. I have one for my front door and one for my bedroom, and you'd better believe I'll be buying more when I move again. I had a sizing issue and had to call Joanne (who is the creator), and she called me back the same day, addressed my concerns, and provided fantastic customer service. My stress load is reduced as well because my cats have stopped waking me up. If your cats are scratching at your carpet, order the carpet scratch stopper RIGHT NOW." —Vickie S.

    18. A big, budget-friendly cat tree so alllll your feline bbs can lounge, sleep, and play in the same spot together. Cats like to be up high so they can see everything that's going on, and this gives them another place to climb and scratch that's *not* your expensive furniture. Plus, the adorable view of them dozing on it day in and day out never gets old.

    www.amazon.com, Jenae Sitzes / BuzzFeed

I've owned this exact cat tree for over two years now and have to say, for the amount of use you (well, your cats) get out of it, it's a steal at this price. My cats are on this thing EVERY day. There are sisal-covered posts along the entire height of it for your cats to scratch, and the rope is just now starting to come apart from the amount of feverish scratching Chicho has done to it (which, for $70, I'm not mad about). Now, there are some parts of this tree my adult cats simply weren't interested in using: the hammock on the first level, the cubby hole on the second, and the tunnel on the third. Those seem to be designed for kittens, making this a great tree for cats of all ages. My cats prefer the two top tiers of the tree and the side basket — which Sneaky (who is very thick) curls up in for his afternoon naps every single day. I appreciate that this cat tree doesn't take up a *ton* of space either and fits very well in my NYC apartment. If you have a pack of kitties and haven't gotten them a dedicated cat tree yet, take this as your sign that it's worth it!

    19. cord protector to end your cat's cable-chewing days for good so you're not constantly having to keep a close eye on them. It can also double as a cable organizer if you have multiple in one area to conceal.

a chewed white cable and text
    Jenae Sitzes / BuzzFeed

I decided to finally give these cord protectors a go recently and can absolutely vouch for their effectiveness. Sneaky is a notorious cord chewer and particularly loves going to town on the charging cable for his automatic water fountain — you can check out the damage above. I was getting to the point where I was afraid it'd stop working entirely, so I ordered these protectors in the 1/2-inch size. They snap on and off *so* easily — flexible enough for removal, but thick and durable enough that your kitty's teeth are no match against the thick wire loom. Sneaky pretty quickly realized he'd finally been defeated once he discovered these on his favorite chewing spots (I also applied a protector to my poor MacBook charging wire, which was another target), and I haven't seen him even attempting to chew anymore.

I like that these come in multiple colors as well as different lengths and sizes so you can order as much as you actually need. You just snip off as much as you need for a particular area, so I used a shorter piece for my water fountain cable and a much longer one for my MacBook charging cable to protect the whole area. I ordered the 1/2-inch diameter ones, but you could definitely go down to the 1/4-inch or even 1/8-inch sizes if you're only planning to cover a single thin cable so it's not quite as bulky as mine looks above. If you're planning to cover multiple cables at once, you'd want to stick with the bigger sizes.

    20. Soft catnip-infused felt balls that come in a set so there's enough to go around. They come with a "charging tin" so that when your kitties start to lose interest, you can just put the balls back in for a few hours to absorb more catnip — that way, they'll be good as new for the next energetic play session.

Simply B Vermont is a small business located in, you guessed it, Vermont. They make all kinds of adorable pet accessories and toys for cats AND dogs.

I love these little felt ball toys! My cats are both suckers for balls that they can bat around, and the catnip only makes these all the more enticing. The refill tin is a genius design. I just recommend storing it out of reach of your babies, because one morning I woke up to catnip scattered all over my floor — Chicho had broken into the tin and ripped the bag. Pair this with a good toy stopper so they won't disappear underneath all your furniture, and you'll have a reliable (and pretty!) toy that should last a long time.

    21. Grooming gloves for cats who shed huge wads of hair every time you go to pet them — at least now, your petting sessions can double as grooming time, and you can prevent some of that excess hair from ending up on your furniture. Plus, many cats really enjoy how this glove feels.

Promising review: "WOW!!! I brushed the cat with our regular brush and got a bit of fur...then I used the glove and got enough fur off that cat to knit a wig for my bald head! AMAZING!!!! The cat purrs and seems to enjoy the process, or maybe she just likes all the new attention she gets from everyone wanting to see how much fur we can get off her..... poor cat looks like she's lost 10 pounds. The best part of this whole thing is that there aren't cat hairballs all over our hardwood floors. We can pick up the cat without a cloud of hair trailing behind us. This product is every bit as good as described." —GS

    22. Or a self-cleaning slicker brush capable of detangling and removing all that loose hair on your cat — then, with the press of a button on top, you can retract the bristles to wipe that excess fur away. Reviewers love it for how gentle it is, the easy cleanup, *and* the way their home feels less ~furry~ afterward.

This slicker brush retracts so the fur comes off the bristles cleanly and in one easy-to-toss chunk. You can see how effective it is (and how unbothered the cat is) in this TikTok!

Promising review: "My cat hates to be brushed, but since he's not going outside anymore, he's not shedding his coat quickly, so hair is just getting everywhere. We HAD to do SOMETHING. I got this brush just HOPING he would let me brush him and the hair factor would be reduced. He LOVES it to the point where he'll jump up to where I keep it on the shelf and cry until I brush him. The brush is super easy to clean. You just push the button on the top, and a piece lifts up, pushing the hair off the bristles to the top. Two things: Make sure you clean over a trash can because it gets everywhere, and the brush doesn't hold much because it's so small. If your cat is as hairy as mine, you might have to clean and brush three or four times to get all the hair off. It feels kind of like a massage, though, and my buddy seems to like it. Super easy to use and clean." —Phoenix

    23. An interactive cat toy that can help picky eaters slow down as well as ~stimulate their brain~ as they try to solve the puzzle of getting treats or dry kibble out of the various-sized tubes in a natural pawing manner. For bored kitties who're always stealing household items (or sometimes literal trash) to play with, this'll provide some much-needed enrichment.

two cats playing with the interactive feeder

I purchased this feeder back in January because Chicho is a little ball of energy and needs regular mental stimulation or he'll whine and stare at me and whine some more (super fun while I'm trying to WFH). Thankfully, he LOVES this. I literally put his regular dry kibble in there, which he already has full access to in his food bowl in the kitchen, but for some reason, putting his paw in these tubes and digging them out one by one really does it for him. I only use it as a playtime toy when he needs attention and I can't give it to him, not as a regular feeding device, but plenty of reviewers said their kitties eat full meals from it (and finally *aren't* throwing up). If your cat is often bored and meowing for attention, I say give this a shot!

    24. A rainbow cat charmer if your cat's favorite thing on this entire PLANET (besides you, obv) is chasing after string. This simple yet engaging toy is covered in a soft felt material, and it makes it easy to play with them using what they love most — a piece of string — since it's extra long, so you can basically just sit, cast it around the room, and watch them go wild.

I have this exact toy for my cats, and it's easily their favorite thing to play with — and they have a lot of toys. I first noticed they loved string because they tore apart a mouse toy that was basically string wrapped around a plastic mouse shape — they didn't care about the mouse, but they loved the torn apart string (aka literal trash at this point). I got this rainbow toy because I realized they really just wanted to chase long tail-like objects, and they sure do light up whenever they see me pick up this wand and know that it's play time. I love that it's long, so I can just sit on my couch and whisk it around it the area, and even shy little Chicho, who likes to sit further back and watch while his older brother plays (as seen in the gif above), can still bat at it. It's a super simple toy, but the amount of joy it'll probably bring your kitty is worth every penny.

Get it from Amazon for $9.99.

    25. A BPA-free airtight food storage container for holding dry food — not only does it keep it fresh for longer; it'll also keep any smart, hungry kitties from tearing open a bag when you're not around. It's available in a slim size that can go right above the fridge, or in bigger sizes with wheels that you could keep inside the pantry.

I love this brand for storing my cats' dry food — especially the fact that their products are made of food-safe polypropylene, aka BPA-free. I got the smallest size this container comes in so it would fit above my fridge, sliding out easily for mealtime when I need to scoop out their portions, and I wash it out with soap and water every time before adding more kibble to keep things fresh. Some people also like to put the bag of food directly inside this for added protection / freshness, and that's a good option too! Though Sneaky loves to sniff around this, he can't tear into it like he used to with regular bags of cat food, so I can leave it out without worry.

    26. A "jingle and roll" cat kicker toy filled with an organic, intoxicating blend of catnip, silver vine, and valerian root. It's durable enough to withstand their frantic bunny-kicking, gnawing, and scratching — which is good, because they won't be leaving it alone anytime soon.

Hoff-n-Paw Pet Toys is a small, Chicago-based biz that creates handmade, eco-friendly pet toys. Owner David says his cats Sweetp and Simba serve as his inspiration.

Chicho loves letting out his play aggression on this toy, especially whenever I give it a fresh spray of catnip. He does more than just kick it though — he licks it, rubs his head on it, rolls around with it, and generally just hugs onto it for a while, like you can see in the gif above. Though he tends to prefer more interactive playtime with me involved, this toy keeps him busy whenever I don't have time to stop what I'm doing and toss his toys around for an hour. Also, all cat owners know how cheap and flimsy many cat toys are, so I've been trying to pick up more high-quality toys for my cats that'll last for years. With its handmade wooden and sisal make, this is definitely one of those toys. Also, there's a rattle inside for extra sensory stimulation!

Get it from Hoff-n-Paw Pet Toys on Etsy for $15.25+ (available in sizes S–L and four colors).

    27. A versatile, washable fleece sleeping pad you can put inside their carrier, on a cat tree, or next to you on the couch to invite your kitty to curl up there. I've had multiple of these over the years to help make my space cozier for the cats, but this one is particularly thick, soft, and cozy and has held up the best.

Since this pad was designed for both cats and dogs, it comes in a wide range of sizes — I have the extra small, and it should be the perfect size for most cats. I keep mine on top of my Go Pet Club cat tree, on a platform that's fairly flat and hard otherwise. This turns it into the comfiest dozing spot, and it's easily their favorite spot on the tree! When I have to take a cat to the vet, I love to throw this pad in their carrier — not only does it provide extra cushioning, but it also has the comforting smell of home they'll recognize even when I have to take them to the scary vet clinic. If you have a window hammock, this would also work great on top of that too! FYI, I've also run this pad through the wash with no issues.

    28. An air purifier to help you manage indoor allergies from pet dander and those awful smells that waft around from the litter box — and if you've ever seen one of your cat's eyes watering, it's possible the poor thing could have allergies itself. This works quietly in the background to clean your air — all you have to do is replace the HEPA filter as needed!

editor's cat next to the white air purifier
editor's old filter that's gray with captured dust and dander, next to a brand new replacement filter that's pure white
    Jenae Sitzes / BuzzFeed

I picked this air purifier up a while back to help manage the ~smell~ that sometimes wafts from my cats' litter box when it starts to get full, and to help keep my NYC apartment air cleaner in general. I'm also (lol) extremely allergic to cats, and though I get allergy shots for this, it's also nice to help cut down on the pet dander for myself and any visitors with allergies. This thing makes a DIFFERENCE. It cuts down on any noticeable smell from the cats, my air feels cleaner, and my allergies are usually non-existent in the apartment.

I was *especially* grateful to have this recently when Canadian wildfires brought smoke all the way down to NYC, where the AQI (air quality index) was over 400 at some points (for those who don't know, that's BAD). It helped keep the air inside my apartment as clean as possible, which made me feel better for myself and my kitties. Since I have a one-bedroom, I'll likely pick up a second one just so I don't have to move it back and forth at night. Oh, and it's fairly quiet — it basically functions as white noise, which can be handy if you run this at night in the bedroom too.

Depending on your usage and environment, it's recommended to replace the filter every 3–6 months — replacements are available on Amazon. (You can see the difference between my old filter and a new replacement one above!)

Promising review: "My kitties love this bed, and it’s adorable seeing them snuggled in the 'tart.' My grandkids play with it too, putting the fruits around the kitties while they lounge. It’s also very padded and warm. Love this; it’s a very clever idea. I hope they come up with more beds like this!" —Joanna Krajewski

    30. clever Door Buddy latch that holds the door open just wide enough for a cat to slip through, but narrow enough to keep a dog out. It's perfect for blocking off a room with a litter box or cat food, or even for keeping the bedroom door a little propped open so the cat doesn't cry to be let out in the middle of the night. The strap is adjustable so you can find the gap size you need!

Promising review: "We have a Boston terrier who LOVES cat food but it makes him extremely sick. We needed something to keep him out but let the cats in so we tried this. It works so well, we bought a second one for our bedroom so the cats at night can come and go as they please but it keeps the dog in our room and out of their hair if they choose to wonder the house! I’m not sure how I lived without it but I won’t be without it now!" —Mickey Bergman

    31. Heavy-duty litter box liners capable of withstanding your cat's feverish scratching while in the litter box.

Cats who like to tear big holes in litter box liners make them pretty much pointless to use, but reviewers say these heavy-duty liners are sturdy enough to withstand the shredding.

Promising review: "This is a lifesaver! I wish I’d discovered these sooner; it would have saved me several unpleasant litter box cleanings. It’s very sturdy and thick enough to withstand my cat’s feverish scratching and burying. This is especially great if you have friends cat-sitting for you, as they can just throw away the bag to avoid having to deal with the litter." —Gabriela

    32. Litter Genie litter disposal system to make daily scooping much less of a pain. You still have to scoop the waste out of your litter box yourself, but you can then deposit it into this pail, which completely locks in odors and prevents you from having to put litter bags in the trash or carry it outside every day.

For someone like me who lives in a fourth-floor walkup, cutting down on the number of trips spent taking litter bags outside is a *major* help. They say it can hold up to 14 days of cat litter for one cat, so you may fill it up quicker depending on how many kitties you have.

Promising review: "Many years ago, I had a Diaper Genie for when my son was in diapers. Imagine my surprise finding the Litter Genie. It's ingenious. I'm so glad I found it. It's so easy to set up and use. I have it timed so that the waste goes in the trash once or twice a week, which is a lot better than every day. The refills are pretty economical; they last a long time and are easy to replace. I don't know how I did without it. Thank you Litter Genie!!!" —K.C. Clancy

    33. And a litter box odor destroyer if your home definitely SMELLS like a cat lives there and you're tired of apologizing to guests about it. This stuff is fragrance-free and doesn't just mask the odor, but completely neutralizes it.

Promising review: "I won’t live without this product. If you love your pets like they are your very own children then this kitty litter additive is just what you need. Parents get nose blind to poopy diapers and pet owners get nose blind about their own home smell. I thought my apartment was odorless until I tried this stuff and ran out of it. Then...I was appalled! I won’t be the stinky cat lady. Try this product and make sure you never run out!" —Fam

    34. handy device so everyone in your house can stop asking each other, "Did you feed the cat" multiple times a day. Turns out, she's overweight because she's tricking everyone into getting four cans of wet food a day. 🙃

the magnet on a reviewer's fridge

It has magnets, so just stick it on your fridge for some easy, nonverbal communication with the members of your household. If you want to stick it somewhere that's not magnetic, it also comes with adhesive for doing so.

Promising review: "Don't be manipulated by your feline resident! She may look cute, but she likes to yell at me first thing in the morning for her wet food. So, of course, I feed her. When my partner gets up later, she tries again, yelling at him like the starving kitty she is NOT. Sometimes he falls for it, and then she gets first and second breakfast. Well, we will be suckered no more! This feeding tracker is magnetic, so we stuck it on the fridge, where the wet food lives. Now we will always know that she was fed, no matter how much she meows at us. We may not win the war, but we did this win battle!" —Purple Lotus

    35. A pill cutter if you've ever had a vet give a prescription for your cat that's 1/4 of a pill — yeah, breaking it down that small with just your fingers is NOT fun. This'll help you slice their pills into those small, precise dosages, and you can even store the precut pills in its base for easy access later.

Having had multiple cats with cancer and other chronic conditions, I'm well-acquainted with giving daily meds. It's never fun, but having a good pill cutter around is a non-negotiable at this point because of how much easier it makes the process, even compared to using a regular knife. Sneaky currently has a medication that comes in pills that are *already* super small, and he can only get a quarter piece every 72 hours, and that would be pretty much impossible without having a pill cutter on hand. Of course, you can use this for human meds too if needed!

    36. A robotic vacuum that'll (literally) stay on top of the endless fur and litter (along with other dust and dirt) that builds up on your floor, freeing up some of your time for other things. Your kitty will likely prefer it to the loud full-sized vacuum and might even have fun stalking it as it quietly moves around cleaning your floor.

This robo vac can easily move between hard floors and low-pile carpets/rugs and can pick up all the accumulated dust, dirt, and hair while you go about your day.

Promising review: "So we have three cats and three large breed dogs. I was seven months pregnant with a 10-month old at home when I realized I had no energy trying to keep the floors clean vacuuming every day so my baby could crawl freely. A friend of mine got this vacuum and was really pleased with it so I decided to try it as well. Oh my god...I fell in love instantly!! We have uneven floors/drop steps and it gets around no problem. With all of our pets I choose to run it at night and sometimes once in the afternoon when the kids are napping. This thing is amazing and picking up everything. I really don't find it to be too loud and I don't mind the maintenance cleaning it requires from working in our house with all the pets. If you're on the fence on this purchase, just give it a try. You'll wonder why you ever lived without it before." —Ecaclan

    37. A mini pet hair remover for tackling that *deeply* embedded fur in their cat beds, towers, sofa cushions, carpeted stairs, and anywhere else they spend a ton of time lounging. Each edge has a different teeth length + density, designed for different cleaning modes, like deep cleaning a spot vs. broad strokes across a wide area. It can help to work this over an area first before vacuuming if that fur is really stuck in there.

I saw it on TikTok and was like, 'Whatever, I’ll try it.' I have a husky and three cats. It normally takes me three HOURS to vacuum my couch and clean it. It took 15 MINUTES. I would rate it 1,000 stars if I could." —Cheyenne Cutsinger

    38. A tunnel bed that'll double as a play area for them to chase each other through, a private snooze spot, *and* a place for them to hide when there are guests or dogs around that they're scared of.

three cats in the tunnel bed (two in tunnel, one in middle part)
cat dozing in the tunnel bed

The middle of the tube has a plush cat bed in it, so they can also take cat naps there if they prefer to use the tunnel for play. You could also lay a blanket in the tunnel for added comfort!

Promising review: "My cats absolutely love this thing! When I was putting it together, my 20-pound tabby immediately went inside the tube, and did not come out for over an hour! It was easy to put together (even with a 20-pound cat inside lol). But, this entire thing set up is about 3 feet long. It is HUGE. Make sure you have room!! The material is surprisingly soft, outside and inside the tunnel. And the light coloring allows light to filter through, which my cats like (I had a black tunnel that neither of them would go into). My smaller 10-pound tabby (black nose) LOVES to run around the house, and now he has added running a few laps inside this tunnel to his run lol. Both cats play in this ALL THE TIME. Both on the inside chasing each other, or one on the inside and one outside batting at each other. They use the tunnel as a good napping spot, and also a spot to hide from the vacuum or guests they aren't sure of. This has gotten soooooo much use from both cats. I would highly recommend this!!" —Trebeca

Promising review: "As far as the flavor goes; the kitties seem to find it top notch! Was tall enough after only five days; but we held off for day six to make sure 'little destroyer' didn't pull it out by the roots! The cup opening keeps the shoots tight together unlike some you buy in the pet store. We couldn't be more pleased. We ordered a refill at the same time and plan to order again just to have two cups so my kids don't fight for position. No mold problems if you follow watering directions." —Kathleen M.

Promising review: "I did a bunch of research trying to find the best interactive cat toy for my indoor kitties (they’re both pretty energetic) and this one is PERFECT!! They never get bored of it! Love that it has two toys built into one! The fact that the butterfly and wire is plastic is perfect because they can’t get their claws stuck in it. They always want the toy the other has and with this one, they can both play at the same time! I read that some toys move too quickly and whip the cats in the face, but this one moves at a perfect pace and the butterfly being attached by a spring gives it the most ADORABLE fluttering motion. They love to chew things up and after a few days of relentless chewing the butterfly is still in pretty good condition! All around GREAT TOY 10/10 recommend for any bored quarantine cats!" —Sophie

A rechargeable, realistic-looking flopping fish, because even the chillest of house cats can't resist the sight of a helpless flopping fish on the ground — they'll want to pounce, bite, and kick it until they're satisfied it's been defeated. A catnip pouch is included and can go inside the fish, and when it gets dirty, the fabric is easily removed and tossed into the laundry.

BuzzFeed Shopping writer Mallory Mower says, "This flopping fish toy is beloved in our home. My two cats love it equally (which has never happened before) and when I say LOVE it, I mean it! I now own multiple fish that just chill on the floor in different rooms 24/7 because the moment I found a cat toy they actually played with...I embraced it whole-heartily!"

Promising review: "I'm never sure if a new cat toy will be received as well as I hope, but this one sure delivered! My three cats have been playing with it almost non-stop, except for when I have to take it away to charge it. It took them a few minutes to realize that they had to touch it to get it to move when it stopped flopping, but once they understood it, they were off to the races. I can't speak to the durability of it, but since the cover can be removed for cleaning, I'm thinking it should last a long time." —Amazongal

Promising review: "I have always had a problem with my one cat vomiting undigested food. My vet told me she was probably eating too fast. I stumbled upon an ad on Facebook stating the bowl position was the reason for cats vomiting; bowls resting on the floor put their neck at an odd angle and can cause acid reflux. I’ve used them for about two weeks and my cat has not vomited once! It was almost a daily occurrence prior to purchasing these! I did have to rest their old bowls inside these to get them to eat. But after a few days I could put the food directly into these bowls and they did not complain." —kindlefire09-8
