5. 2013 XLVII San Francisco vs Baltimore Ravens

Gary Hershorn / Reuters

The 49ers were down 28-6 right before the big event of the lights completely shutting off. There was a 35-minute delay and after the delay, the 49ers were ready to play. They went on a 23-6 run which made the score 34-29. Colin Kaepernick has one last chance to score after he drove all the way down the field but wasn’t able to convert for a touchdown after driving all the way inside the 10-yard line. Because of the great comeback after the black out, and Ray Lewis retiring after getting the Superbowl win, I rank this at the 5th best Superbowl this century. The score was tight by the end of the half until James Harrison had an interception on the goal line and returned it for a 100-yard interception touchdown to be up 17-7 at half. After Larry Fitzgerald goal-line touchdown in the 4th, the Steelers had the ball at their own goal line. The Steelers suffered a holding penalty in the end zone which means Cardinals were just down 20-16. Cardinals get the ball back and score on a 65-yard touch down for Fitzgerald and now taking the lead with 2:37 minutes left. Big Ben was not done yet, he drove down the field and Santonio Holmes ended the drive with an amazing tiptoed catch to win the game. Because of the amazing late game scores, I rank this game at the 4th best Superbowl this century.

To begin, this game was a defensive game all in all. In the fourth quarter the score was only 7-3, Patriots had the lead until Eli Manning threw for a touchdown early in the quarter. When the late 4th quarter hit, Tom Brady connected with Randy Moss with 2:42 left on the clock to make it 14-10. Eli and the Giants weren’t done fighting yet. Eli scrambled out of a sack and threw a Hail Mary pass to David Tyree, which he jumped up and barely made this unbelievable catch by trapping it against his helmet. This catch goes down in one of the best catches in NFL history. With only 35 seconds left, Eli throws a pass to Plaxico Burress for the game-winning touchdown. Giants beat the Patriots 17-14.

The score was 21-24 Seahawks lead in the fourth. With 2 minutes remaining, Tom Brady hooks up with Julian Edelman for a go-ahead touchdown making it 28-24. Seahawks are not giving up just yet with the Superbowl on the line. Wilson throws a pass down the field and the ball was deflected but surprisingly the receiver, Jermaine Kearse, caught the ball while on his back which goes down as one of the most acrobatic catches ever. The Seahawks are now inside the 10-yard line. As soon as we thought that Marshawn Lynch would just run in for a touchdown, the Seahawks decided to throw the ball on the 2 yard line and threw an interception to lose the game. This is the most memorable interception of all time, which makes it the number 2 Superbowl of all time. Highlight video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qrc9RRe21Ec

At one point in the 3rd quarter, the Patriots were down 28-3. The game seemed to be over until the Patriots started to score. They got the score back to 28-20. The Patriots were marching down the field when Tom Brady throws a ball down the field and is deflected but barely is caught before it hits the ground by Julian Edelman, which put them in scoring territory. With 57 seconds remaining, James White runs it in for the touchdown and the game is tied by the game tying score with the 2-point conversion. The score is tied 28-28 at the end of regulation. This is the first Superbowl ever to go into overtime. Patriots get the ball at the beginning of overtime. Tom Brady and the Patriots march down the field until James White runs it in for a 2-yard game-winning touchdown! This is the best Superbowl ever because of the Patriots 25 point comeback and getting the first Superbowl win in overtime.
