This Couple Tied The Knot After A 44-Year Courtship

Some things are worth the wait.

Many couples date for a period of time before tying the knot. Well, 85-year-old Colin Dunn and his new wife, 82-year-old Sally Smith, from Leeds, England, were partners for 44 years before getting married this past weekend.

The two met years ago in 1972 at Middleton Social Club, they told the Yorkshire Evening Post.

Sally use to bartend there, and Colin would frequent it when he worked as a truck driver.

"Sally used to serve me every weekend when I'd go in every weekend," Colin told the newspaper. "We got chatting and she got used to me going. Eventually, I asked her out."

After dating for a while, Colin moved in with Sally and her four children from a previous marriage. The couple always had getting married on their agenda, but were always occupied with other things.

"We lived as man and wife but we were always so busy, looking after the children, or going to Blackpool on holiday," Colin said.

The couple continued living together, raised four kids, and watched as their family grew to include 13 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

They were happy and content, but after Colin's brother died around Christmas, he decided that he didn't want to put marriage off any longer.

So on Saturday, the Dunns finally became husband and wife in front of a crowd of around 100 family members and friends at St. Mary's Church in Leeds.

“It was worth the wait," Sally told the Yorkshire Evening Post. "The day was lovely, even the weather. We had a beautiful cake at the reception, but the highlight for me was actually getting married.”

Colin also expressed how much he enjoyed their special day. “It was marvellous. Everything went like clockwork," he told the newspaper.

    Worth the wait indeed!
