If Words Obeyed The Alphabet

I never use Txt Spk and always like to use proper vocabulary, pronunciation and grammar, but if I could change certain words to read like they sound, then here it is.

A perfect letter, yet when used as a word 'I ate a banana today' wouldn't it be better if it was 'I ate ah banana today' ? Some people get the letter A and the word A mixed up.

Whether it's a word like big or brother, the letter B doesn't pretend to be anything it's not meant to be.

The letters K and S pretty much do a lot of C's work and C gets all the credit. century and cat should be pronounced sentury and kat respectively. Also, C doesn't have to jump in front of K in certain words to emphasise the sound, although the word duck might not look as good spelt as duk. Although C is not completely useless, it could be used purely for words with 'ch' sounds, cheese could do well as 'ceese.

One of the most perfect letters. Just like B it doesn't claim to be anything else.

One of the most frequent letters, it appears almost everywhere (four times in the word 'everywhere') and the silent E is pretty much the only silent letter that is actually useful. More on this letter later.

The first letter of everyone's favourite swear word. F doesn't claim to be anything it's not, except maybe in the word 'of', as this word has a V sound. Yet it is at times represented by a silent 'ph' in words like 'phone', surely there is nothing wrong with 'fone', then there is words like 'enough' where 'enouf' would be sufficient enough, surely. Also, F is pronounced as 'Eff' yet the E works well in words like 'effect' whilst 'ffect' just doesn't sound the same.

A letter with two main sounds, but surely only one is needed as J can represent the 'soft G', words like 'garden' is fine, but words like 'gentle' could easily be 'jentle'. In words like 'garage' it could be 'garaje'.

A fine letter, which many dialects tend to drop if it starts a word. It doesn't need to follow C in words like 'cheek' but can still follow S and T in words like 'shake' and 'that' respectively.

A confusing letter, for referring to oneself, 'I' is a one letter word and always capitalized. yet what we see out of is an 'eye'. In a way the latter works better. Also the I used in the image is better than the boring straight line, which is often confused with the number 1 or a lowercase L.

My favourite letter of the alphabet. Yet it is underused, and the 'Soft G' could be discontinued and J be used more, words like 'gorgeous' could become 'gorjeous'.

As mentioned earlier, it is a good enough letter without C jumping in front of it and/or replacing it. Yet where on earth did the silent K come from?? 'knitting' may sound a bit gross being spelt as 'nitting' but still.

A good enough letter, L is pronounced as 'Elle' so certain words like 'elegant' just wouldn't look the same if spelt 'legant', so like the letter F, L sometimes needs the E to precede it. The silent L in words like 'walk' seem unnecessary.

A letter that simply does what it has to do. Like F and L, it is pronounced as 'Em' so a word like 'emancipation' wouldn't look right as 'mancipation'.

Nn

Joining the F,L,M club, it is pronounced as 'En' and words like 'engage' wouldn't sound the same if they were spelt like 'ngage'. But the silent N in words like 'column' seem like they are just throwing letters around the place.

Oo

The most well rounded letter, and often used to represent the number 0. O only has one flaw, that it is the first letter of the number 'one' now where did this silent O come from? Surely 'won' would be sufficient enough.

A letter which has a distinct sound, but also appears silent in certain words, and not just in words like 'phone' , what's the difference between a 'sociopath' and a 'psychopath' ? Well, one difference is one has a silent P, which seems pretty unnecessary.

A letter we don't see very often, but when we do it's always followed everywhere by the letter U, however, Q has it's own unique sound |kw| so it could function independently without U. Words like 'quite' would be perfectly fine as 'qite'.

Pronounced as 'Or' the O sound works well in words like 'orange' as 'range' is just a completely different word.

Ss

A letter that looks like a snake and even sound like a sssnake. S can be used in a number of ways, most notably as a plural. Like F, L, M and N it is pronounced as 'Es' and words like 'especially' wouldn't sound the same as 'specially'. Silent E to the rescue again, but S doesn't need the silent P.

One of the most frequent letters, and one that is fine the way it is.

Pronounced as 'You' just like the word. U often represents words with a Y sound, like 'university' which could easily be 'yuniversity'.

Vv

Zzz

A letter that simply just does it's thing, although F replaces it in the word 'of' which should easily be 'ov'. Strangely, V is the only letter in the English language which is not used in any two letter words, surely 'of' would be the place to start.

Ww

Zzz

This letter is the only one that doesn't contain it's sound in it's name. Pronounced 'Double You' although it's symmetry looks more like a Double V than a Double U. Other than that it's a pretty good letter, except it's absence in the number 'one'

It follows F, L, M, N and S as a member of the silent E club, pronounced 'Ex', however unlike those other letters, this one doesn't need a silent E to start off certain words, 'exquisite' could still work well 'xquisite'. The letter X is one of the coolest letters, yet hardly ever starts any words, and when it does it has a Z sound 'xerox' is pronounced as 'zerox'. Give X it's own identity. xxx

Pronounced as 'why' it's often seen at the end of words, usually words like 'silly' (a polite word to describe this article). It could replace U in '(Y)university'.

If you're still reading this article then you have probably seen the letters ZZZ quite a lot already. Pronounced as 'Zed' or 'Zee' its the only letter that has two different pronunciations. Sometimes, it sounds like the letter S and the two could easily be related. As mentioned earlier certain words with a Z sound begin with an X like 'xylophone' surely whoever wrote the dictionary just felt sorry for the letter X and gave it some help by letting it replace another rarely used letter.
